Somewhere where people discuss games as experiences in detail with a critical eye but with a view that games are an evolving medium. I have hung out at Rockpapershotgun forums for quite a few years, however the level of the dialogue has gone down considerably as it's become more popular and the signal to noise ration in terms of constructive posters Vs agenda trolls ('That's not an RPG!!', 'Publishers are corporations and corporations are EVIL!!', 'Indie developers can do no wrong!!', 'DRM/Origin is worst than gamg rape and I'll never play a game by Ubisoft/EA ever!!'..yadda yadda *yawn*) has just made it increasingly a chore to try and have an articulate discussion of any kind without being abused for not subscribing to group think/mob consensus. Frankly I can't be doing with any of that reductionist cap any more (life is too short, and my time too precious to waste on morons). I'd rather find people to enthuse about the gradual evolution of the medium/or the minutiae of particular games, rather than rubbish everything and find reasons 'not' to play a games.

Any recommendations where I can find such a haven would be appreciated.

Crumpets with your Earl Grey?
Actually I know where you're coming from. Though I'd pretty much just given up.

There are none that I know of. 4chan's /v/ sometimes has fantastic discussion but it's literally full of bullshit. Anonymity makes 4chan an honest discussion board. Then there's Reddit that is all ruined by the karma and the usernames. Got an unpopular opinion? Too bad, you'll be downvoted to hell. And Reddit is very indie-admiring, they worship Notch and other 'revolutionary indie devs'.

A 4chan without all the horrible crap would be a dream come true.

I do think that some subreddits like truegaming are actually just that.

I like this place better for discussing video games. r/truegaming is too casual.

/v/ and neoGAF, duh brah.

:VVVVVV ...:v

Neogaf is a bitch to get approval for (I use gmail and they want 'proper' emails) and I need a website that is SFW (so anything 4chan is kind of out the window).

What's wrong with here? ;(

Not enough traffic tbh dude. Who knows if we get numbers up again it might become busy, but generally it's very quiet here.

Someone else recommended 'gamers with Jobs' forums and it seems like they run a good ship so I'll try there.

This thread is TREASON.

The only forums I've seen with good game threads is SomethingAwful.
Get yer wallet out.

Good luck finding people who want to talk about video games without their own taste's superiority in mind.

boards dot come backslash boards

Everyone here is a filthy casual with shit taste in games that's what.

Says the man who never finished Dark Souls.

On topic: I usually like this site for discussions. Willie is often my go to guy for game buying decisions tbh. Dunno much about Giant Bombs forum but the community seems large.

Wait, so you complain about RPS because its level of traffic is too high and thus invites shitty opinions, but then are averse to this site because there's not enough people?

Anyways, I suggest www.gamasutra.com. Its not so much a forum, but the articles are usually good, and there are some good discussions in the comments sections.

You could try HL2.net. If you posted a thread that encouraged the kind of discourse you wanted, I'm sure you'd get a decent response.

No it's because the high traffic has brought a lot of Agenda Trolls, and their forums lack for strong moderation (unlike here). Subsequently it's been overrun to extent that trying to have a remotely constructive dialogue is nigh on impossible. For instance if you try talking about RPGs some dude (whom even RPG codex seem to have kicked out for being too extreme) turns up to de-rail the thread because anything made after Ultima VII is not a 'true RPG'. He's a bit of a joke, but he still basically succeeds in shutting down meaningful discussion because people don't have the sense not to engage with him, and he drags the discussion off into mechanics...

Albeit we are all guilty of having agendas (mine is how goddamn shortsighted MS were in making the core 360s and how the negative impact of no guaranteed HDD and no HD-DVD essentially hamstrung game development considerably), there are some people there whose sole purpose seems to be to push the same prejudices all the time, rather than embrace the future with an open mind.

I do check out Gamasutra occasionally tbh, but it's not really a community.

I know, but I thought I'd ask. I got turned onto Quarter to three as well so I'll give that a go also.

Well maybe I'll post up here as well. I'm kind of low energy at present (it's never an easy decision to leave a community) so I'm not exactly game conversation heavy at the moment.
