Looking for an affordable synth

lol james bernard

congrats on the purchase man, tracks sound great. hope you have fun with it :)

Yeah this is everything I had dreamed physical hardware music production would be. It's so great, I can just grab it and go downstairs, sit on the couch, plug in my headphones, and make a beat while watching TV or something. I can just jump right into it any time I want, go to a blank pattern and tweak up a pattern, jam with it for a while, record something if it's worthy, and ... Well, there you go.

Hehe, I'm listening now, definitely some cool ideas. I love the whole concept of 'proper' hardware - interfaces with lots of knobs are ok but you're still stuck in the corner looking at a CRT at the end of the day, definitely better to have lots of glowing buttons etc :)

If you ever want to get into sampling, have a look at the SP-505 - I got one dirt cheap offof ebay a year ago (about a hundred quid, around 200 dollars I suppose) and they offer a similar amount of tactile control, with the bonus of proper wave editing and recycle-like beat slicing that's missing on the ES-1.

I wouldn't worry about 'analog vs digital', everything gets squeezed into 44.1khz 16bit on CD's anyway

Thanks Harij.
What's wrong with James Bernard? :p
I like that guy's stuff, and he's got a real attitude when he's doing his videos.

Here's another track featuring playing around with cross modulation:

Not very happy with it, didn't really spend enough time finding neat ways to play with the sound, and I made some mistakes.

And here is the one I made previous to that with the same technique, which I did not post in this thread:

(Mandatory double post)

My sister, who got a guitar and is taking lessons, bought an FX pedal yesterday. DigiTech GRUNGE Distortion. It's pretty nifty.

I hooked it up to my 'tribe. Pretty awesome if you like ****ed up distorted drums and shit.

(First part is guitar)

Today I got to play around with a Microkorg and an Electribe EA I think it was (the green one).

I had no clue what I was doing but it was fun using them together and making cheesy trance with the presets.

:O

Awesome!

Yesterday I went to my local music store again and played around with more stuff, there's a Microkorg there and that thing is awesome; but man, you got to play with the EA1? That's so awesome :D
I'm getting one for my next purchase. That and the one I have were made to work together.

Edit: Haha, I just gave Qonfused a "live show" in Ventrilo... That was fun :D

Edit 2: New track, ambient. Get's better as it goes along.

So I found a program that lets me monitor and edit all the parameters of a pattern on my Electribe. What does this mean for me? I can make a melody by knowing what midi value the pitch parameter needs for each note. All I do is record a motion sequence of editing the value to each number in the melody, and I've got it.

So I've made three tracks with basslines. They sound pretty awesome.

(The performances themselves aren't that great imo)

I was waiting for you to start rapping over Bassizzle.

Happy birthday to me!

Since practically all stores have suddenly stopped selling the EA1 (Literally, I swear I saw them available at Zzounds JUST this morning) I've decided to get the ES1 mkII instead. That's the sampler.

I'm a little disappointed, but the ES1 still provides plenty of melodic capability, and it will be really nice to have real sampled drums in the mix.

The price tag is right up there with the money I have available, so, awesome.

Change of plans... (well, events, to be more accurate)

I just won an auction for the EA1 mkII. The synths, they shall be mine!

:) :) :)

I made a nice beat just now. This may be the last track without synth backup from me that you'll ever hear!

Hope you enjoy this, I quite like it.

I love the way a kick drum and open hi-hat work together... Perhaps you'll hear this beat again, accompanied by some tasty synth goodness! Big hug to anyone who listens, looks like my thread is dying D:

So I've had my EA1 for a couple days now. Have been kind of busy but I do have 2 tracks recorded.

This first one is done with a factory pattern on the EA1, but it's just so awesome that I couldn't resist making a track out of it. The drum loop is my own.

And here is a track entirely made by me. The synth was inspired by one of Denkitribe's videos on YouTube. Very dance/rave.

This is all live tweaking and I don't really have any plans when I start recording, so some parts are a bit sketchy.

Once I get a mixer it'll be far easier to mute/solo the two synth parts. On the EA1 you have to select the synth and then turn the volume knob down, this makes something like a fast switch from one synth to the other impossible.

TTD is pretty good, though the line in the background is a little repetitive. No big deal though. Love the pattern in that Remix one as well. Keep making stuff, etc.

So, I just loved Crazy Harij's "Analog Madness" so much that I recreated the bass, lead, and drum sequence on my Electribes.

Here is a recording:

Also I have a recording of me messing around with the audio in feature of my EA1.
Very slow paced ambient/weirdness. I like the lonely feel of it. Dunno, I think it's neat.

I did some more messing around and came up with something I really liked... Listen to this one if the first one was too empty:
