I've been on a sci-fi stint recently. I've depleted my stash and now I'm looking for something fresh to rent and watch.

So far I have seen:
Alien (all of them)
The Matrix (all of them)
Blade Runner
28 Days/Weeks Later
Star Wars (all of them)
Twelve Monkeys
Dawn of the Dead
Night of the Living Dead
Sunshine
Children of Men

any suggestions?

Serenity/Firefly of course. Battlestar Galactica is good as hell too. Check out Event Horizon, it's worth a watch. The Fifth Element is entertaining. 2001: A Space Odyssey. Contact. Equilibrium. Minority Report. Sphere is alright.

I'd actually pick watching Firefly: The Complete Series DVD over its sequel film Serenity, although watching the series isn't required to understand the movie.

There's this low budget indie film called The Man From Earth that's supposed to be excellent although talky.

x-men series is good and i liked war of the worlds

I've watched "The Man From Earth" and it's a good film although it's not for everyone, it's kind of like theater they just talk through the whole thing. And the action takes place in only one setting.

War of the Worlds is good but it's kind of like I AM Legend in the sense that it's good 3/4 but the ending is terrible...

Other reccomandations:

Dark City
Minority Report
Impostor
The 13th Floor

No mention of Predator :O

Well, ups

Completing previous list:

Dark City
Minority Report
Impostor
The 13th Floor
Star Gate
Predator 1
Terminator 1&2
Starship Troopers 1 (avoid the sequel like the plague)
The Abyss
Total Recall
Dreamcatcher
The Fifth Element
Contact
Equilibrium
Sphere

battlefield earth.......................:cheese:

btw I got a request

I remenber when I was very little I once saw a movie that was sci fi but dont remnber too much of it

I remnber it was in a gritty place obviously

I remenber there was some lazer whips that cut trough almost anything and such and it was gory
I remnber a scene of a bunch of tv screen aligned like a jesus cross
and they used some kind of cybernetic dolphin for something at the finale

Deja Vu is a pretty good.
Day After Tomorrow's worth a watch.
...Nobody mentioned Jurassic Park?! (Just watch them all, they're all fun films.)
The Andromeda Strain
Journey to the Center of the Earth
And nobody's mentioned Back to the Future?!(all of them)
Star Trek : First Contact(or any of the Trek films really, they're all decent movies.
Gremlins(1st only, the second was fairly shit.)
The Thing(another mentionless title!)
Fantastic Voyage

That's all I can think of off the top of my head that nobody's mentioned.

Some valid movies but i also recommend

eXistenZ and Gataca

Cheers

Johnny Mnemonic?

Oh yes, The Thing. One of the best movies ever made.

It's not.

The 3rd is a steaming pile of shit. The first is really good, but I'd recommend the books more so than the movies.

But they're all worth the watches for anybody that wants a fun movie to sit down and eat popcorn to.

If you watch them and expect to gain knowledge from then, steer clear of them.
Except Day After Tomorrow has a small amount of realism to it, some of it is blown way the **** out of proportion but alot of it could and probably will happen.
According to my meteorology professor atleast, we watched it as it dealt with global warming.

Logans run? nahh...probably not

If you liked Twelve Monkeys, give Brazil a shot, also directed by Terry Gilliam. Wonderfully crazy film. Very funny but seriously dark and downbeat.

The Day The Earth Stood Still. Watch it before next year's remake utterly ruins it.

Independence Day
Donnie Darko
V for Vendetta
The Ring
Resident Evil (first one only)
Phantasm Quadrilogy

I don't think they have been mentioned.

The Prestige hasn't been mentioned yet. A Christopher Nolan masterpeice!

Terminator 1 and 2 forget 3
equilibrium
day of the dead and night of the living dead (maybe land of the dead as well I didn't like it though)

Resident Evil (first one only)

*vomits*

Watch Children of Men again. Then watch Gattaca. You may then die happily.

Strange Days (if you can ignore the 1999 setting) and The Abyss, full version.

The Prestige hasn't been mentioned yet. A Christopher Nolan masterpeice!

seconded.

Okay, looking at the suggestions, I've seen most of them, but so far it looks like I'll be renting:

Donnie Darko
Equilibrium
Gattaca

and possibly Brazil.

I might also see predator again, because its been so long that I barely even remember it.

EDIT:
Also the Fifth Element and Waterworld. I haven't seen those movies since they first came out in theaters. I must have been 5-6 years old.

Fifth Element is a shitty sci-fi parody, not proper science-fiction movie.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind! Such a classic by Spielberg, you have to see it. Also his Artificial Intelligence: A.I. was pretty good too.

eXistenZ and Gataca

Oooh, forgot about both of these. Gattaca was a great find (I had never heard of it until a few months ago, and to my delight it was a pretty good film), and eXistenZ is entertainingly weird.
Johnny Mnemonic?
That's what I was thinking with his description, I wasn't aware it was ever made into a movie though (I was thinking of the short story by William Gibson)... although apparently it WAS made into a movie starring Keanu Reeves of all people, hahahahaha: http://imdb.com/title/tt0113481/

+1, I love Jurassic Park

Heathen. It takes itself quite seriously as a science fiction movie, there's just a healthy dose of humor. That's what I like so much about it.

Heh, I'd personally recommend Running Man, because of the camp 80's value.

Then again, so many people hate it.

Logan's Run is entertaining if you like cheesy sci-fi.

Total Recall!
totalrecall03ch5.jpg

Try Event Horizon I thought it was quite good. Its about a spaceship that can form wormholes and makes one into a different dimension and comes alive! plus its got sam neill and lawrence fishburne in it also try the cube trilogy they're worth watching if you've never seen any of them

my suggestions.

12 Monkeys
Brazil (terry gilliam ftw)
Cube (the first one only the others are trash)
Starman
Dark Star
The day the earth stood still.
Soylent Green
Enemy mine.
Tremors
Fantastic voyage
Mad Max 1 and 2 (especially 2)
Forbidden planet
THX 1138
Scanners

Solaris (both the superior 1972 version and 2002 remake)

Hmm... I always found jurassic park to be overrated :|

I just watched the first cube and its 10 times better than both sequels combined plus its got david hewlett in it from SG Atlantis FTW

I watched Gattaca today.

It was pretty good, but honestly I found the whole "let's go to titan!" thing alot more exciting than the gene-topia focus.

Still a very good movie.

Watching equilibrium next.

You HAVE to see Starship Troopers, that movie rocks.
