I was trying to post in the theme song thread... then i realized i don't have alot of variety in music... it's just all the main stream stuff... and i want to try some new stuff, but have no idea where to start... can anybody give me some suggestions?

Led Zeppelin

Buy Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, then you will find a whole new brand of good music.

Of course the classic stuff as His Dudness mentioned.

I came upon a cool band a few days ago called Dragon Force, they remind me of Geddy Lee and rush

Dark Side of the Moon is good stuff.
Also, The Flaming Lips are pretty good.. me thinks..

Ah, well in that case...

Amplifier
Very epic, dirty rock music. Embrace the almight power of the riff!

The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster
You can't get any better than what the magazine NME said: Iggy Pop, At The Drive In, Black Francis and '65 era Jagger joyriding round Dead Man's Curve at midnight with the lights off screaming "I WANNA **** YOUR MOTHER!!!!!" before ramming headlong into a tree. ****ing incredible.

Sikth
Schizophrenic metalheads. One of their vocalists sounds just like Captain Caveman. :D

Muse
You seem to be from the US, so I assume you haven't heard of Muse before. Again, very epic pretentious rock here, but it's all good. :D

Nine Inch Nails
Defies all genres, really. Takes elements from industrial, glam rock, techno, dance, metal, jazz, funk, and Sonic Youth. There are no samples on their website (if you don't include the random videos), so "We're In This Together" and "Star****ers, inc." are good starting points if you want to use alternate methods. :)

Killswitch Engagehttp://www.killswitchengage.com/
One of the best US metal bands around at the moment. Listen to their new album in full here

As for Japanese stuff...

The Mad Capsule Markets
This is just pure insanity.

Dude, Pink Floyd is not pure insanity, it is great guitar riffs mixed with soothing tones, then a good ol rock song thrown in to bring you back to life from the soothing high it gives you.

Who said Pink Floyd was pure insanity? :|

I just figured from all the wacky music you were recommending.

They might be giants are my heroes!

Only one good song, and that was the one from Max Payne 2, Late Goodbye.

The postal service, Muse, The Hives, The vines, Greenday, Air, Tool, Metallica - ehm.. pff lets see, what else ehm - Judas priest, eels, UNKLE .. tons more but i cant remember them right now

Massive Attack, Portishead, Boards of Canada, Kid Loco, DJ Food, DJ Cam, DJ Shadow, Lamb, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Funki Porcini if you want to start listening to the real shiznat, and go as far away from mainstream as possible.

The Music They're like what Led Zeppelin might have been if they grew up in an era of bad skunk and bad dance music. Amazing up-beat blend of rock, psychedelia and dance music. A friend of mine described them as "Rage Against the Primal Zeppelin" (Primal as in Primal Scream) There are some bootlegs on a fansite - I don't think they're illegal? The quality's not great, but oh the songs... And they're just 19-20 ish

The Cooper Temple Clause Similar to The Music in that they're melding rock with dance elements. Except these guys are far more powerful a lot of the time, but can also be sad and dreamy. They've managed to do the experimental thing that Radiohead strived to do, except with ease, better and not as pretentious. They often acheive the grandness of sound Muse strive for, again with ease. The first time I saw them was supporting Muse, three years ago and they blew me away - The Coopers are the most amazing live band. As are The Music!

The Streets Obviously not everyone gets this, but oh Skinner's so very good. Yes yes oh yay. Check out The Irony of It All, Lights Are Blinding and Turn The Page (or if you're in for a more conventional garage thang - Has It Come To This?)

The VonBondies I know, I know - another "The" band. Except these guys are better than the usual slew of soundalikes in Allstars. It's like the usual garage rock but with a bluesy twist that makes it more individual.

Delays Really gorgeous chilled out psychedelic music very reminiscent of The Byrds.

DJ Shadow Wicked little bit of hip-hop. I've only got Endtroducing, so I can't comment on The Private Press. Check out Brainfreeze Parts 1 & 2 - two half-hour soul and funk hip-hop mixing sessions with him and Cut Chemist.

DJ Dangermouse The Grey album is an amalgam of the Beatles' White Album mixed with Jay-Z's Black Album and the results are amazing. Every beat, every sound of music is pulled from the Beatles' music - nothing from synths or drum machines or anything. It works superbly. However it's not technically legal - EMI are notoriously touchy about these kinds of things - so the only way to hear it is through the internet. Don't worry though - it's not hard to find.

Phi-Life Cypher Amazing, clever Brit-hop with wicked samples, scratching, lyrics, everything. Almost devoid of the Gangsta posing of most hip-hop. Same goes for Roots Manuva and DJ Skitz

As an aside: Does anyone know what Zack de la Rocha's playing at? His solo album was supposed to be out about three years ago :hmph: All I've seen him do was an anti-war song with DJ Shadow. Which was quite good actually.
