Looking forward to DNF?

If that guys telling the truth, then man... They are douchebags...

(still yet, stipper day does sound kinda' sweet hehe)

I don't see how they still exist...surely all the money they made on their previous games has been blown now on licencing engines and nonsensical advertising?
Are they going to come close to bankrupcy ever?

Jeez, what a bunch of dicks. I knew they were incompetent, but I didn't know they were quite that despicable.

What an absolute tosser. DNFhas to come out now, or 3dR will simply disappear- they've put too many resources into it to see it go down. Long live DNF! (Or at least the development stage of it anyway :))

Stripper day?

I didn't know 3DR was staffed by hormonal 14 year olds...

From various posts on the net, you can tell that 3DR employees are prats.

Nice find. But I have to agree with some posters that Stripper Day is actually a good idea.

Not really. It's pretty immature, and you can see where their "megaballs" humour comes from when the bosses are paying strippers to come in every week, when they can't even finish one game in about 10 years. I'd just assumed they were playing to a "megaballs" audience before, but now I see that they're all just kids who never grew up.

Edit: wait i thought you said

That would've been better.

"- The first and most important thing to know about 3DR is that they are All Mouth. Last game they actually produced? Shadow Warrior, a DOS game from 1997 - which doesn't even technically count as it was handled in part by an external team. Please excuse me if I flinch at the use of "legendary" to describe a company that has never produced a game for the Windows platform. They made exactly one good game, a late-Doom-era FPS that was hardly the most remarkable of its time, and have managed to parlay its success into a mini-empire predicated entirely on their ability to convince press, publishers and gamers alike that they are something more than a pack of incompetent shysters."

Heh. I never actually picked up on that one. That really is embaressing.

DNF's development reminds me of Axl Rose's (Guns n Roses) supposed new album 'Chinese Democracy' they have both been in devlopment for way too long

He does slate Max Payne a little bit too much. Max Payne would have been cool without bullet time and I thought it was a well put together game.

That rant can easaly go for 'Running with sissors' then 3DR.

I notices he diss's SW rather then DN3D... because clearly DN3d is an awesome game. Am i the only one here to want to see DNF be a great game...

Meh, After reading that...
I'm not sure what to think now...

Perhaps. But RWS is nowhere near as pretentious as 3DR.

And at this point, I'd like to see DNF burn upon release. It would be such an amazing spectacle.

I read some small blog or whatever they call it when developers release their comments on the web, and the it was one of the 3DR boss guys ranting at people who made comments that it's never going to come out.

Basically he was telling his fans to **** off.

Arrogant twat, I hope DNF does burn on release.

Perhaps they have men strippers for the lady staff at 3dRealms?

Can't really have Max Payne without bullet time surely? 'Tis the point of the whole game!

I dont see any reason to think this is anything but a crzay guys ranting.

tru.dat

The internets are full of nutjobs claiming to work in just about any place of interest...

OMG IMZ GABE NEWELL/1

Truth or not, i think he's expressing the anger of the gaming world toward the game that we don't talk about.

Either way there aren't enough FPS games with NPCs, specifically stripping female NPCs. Something has to be done about that.

Not true.

I know the guy in question - he's definitely worked there.
I can also corroborate a good percentage of what he says (i.e. the link to where Scott Miller boasts about the money they made is definitely factual).

It's real.

Pi = gabe?

Nope a humble games developer...humble as in he doesn't hype up or even reveal who he's working for.

Pi = G-man

if it is real, there are no words to express how i feel because i was really looking forward to duke nukem forever and thought that they were quite a good company...

...but like a lot of things on the internet, i take it with a pinch of salt because like others have said, there are some people on the net who like to be attention whores

While the poster of this (extremely immature) blog (or whatever it is) has a point concerning the production rate of 3Drealms that doesn't change my feelings towards dnf.

If the game ever comes out (and I'm not going to bet that it will) I will be severely dissapointed if it does not raise the bar in every aspect of first person-gaming.

There is a reason why 3Drealms have been able to not release anything big the last x years.

I'm not going to go through his entire post and pick apart all the bull therein. I am going to do the only sensible thing; judge the game(s) when they are released.

.bog. -still hoping

Heh. The thing is... It's been so long. When a company can't produce a high quality title in 10 years, where as Valve (criticised for their long development time, too) manage to put out 2 GoTYs in that space, and publish the most played multiplayer FPS... Well, I think that judgement on their skill and integrity is perfectly valid.

well its obvious that they've managed the project really badly but even george broussard has admitted that on their forums a few times...theres no evidence of these stripper days and what not so it could just be some pissed off fan...but if pi mu rho says its someone legit then i don't know what to think

Whether or not parts of it are real, the article is far too biased to be taken seriously.

For example we're told the developer-developer model is no better than the developer-publisher model. Well excuse me but 3DR are prepared to back a game indefinitely, where as the typical game publisher is not. Take 2 actually withheld payments for Max Payne. Without 3D Realms the game would have been released prematurely, and would not have had the same commercial or critical success.

At this point in time Remedy are financially independent thanks to 3DR. This would not have happened if Max Payne had been entirely under publisher control. I guess this is the kind of "long term damage" he's talking about. Let's look at some of his other ridiculous assertions:

We're lead to believe 3DR have to "rip off" content from people like Bruce Campbell rather than create their own, but guess what: Duke3D contained 4 whole lines from Campbell, 4 lines that he didn't even originate anyway. Hail to the king, for instance was used by Elvis years before. And guess why Campbell "copied" that line, that's right because it was aimed as a homage. Which is exactly what Campbell's lines in Duke 3D are (and they're delivered completely differently anyway).

Again with the whole "3DR think their customers are idiots" claim. So because the main character is given a memorable name 3DR look down on their customers. Right. I guess that means every company that uses a puns looks down on its customers too.

Including Remedy. Their next game being Alan Wake or A.Wake. "OMG Remedy thinks its customers are idiots". Oh, yeah, and we're supposed to believe a single teaser page for prey (complete with one hidden message in the source code) constitutes an entire viral marketing campaign.

Edit: Oh, and DNF has gone through 2, not three engines.

Judgement will be passed when DnF comes out or when 3Drealms run out of cash, whichever comes first. Unless you have/plan to aquire shares in 3Drealms nothing else matters.

Not at all. It's entirely written from the viewpoint of an ex-employee. He doesn't claim objectivity. I was just pointing out that he's not a "random nutjob"
