My dad got an e-mail saying how EB pushed the release of Hl2 back to November 1st. I tried tell him that was a big load of shit and that EB had no clue when it would be released but being the stubborn guy he is, didn't believe me. So we argued a bit and basically, I bet him 50 bucks that the game would be out BEFORE nov 1st. Which is a safe bet to be sure...

He didn't even believe me when I said that Valve answered people's e-mails and there was a big thread with about 700+ replies. I even tried to explain the whole preload thing to him and how they wouldn't preload a game 2 MONTHS before release.

In anycase, you guys agree with me that HL2 will be out before nov right?
 
you can't declare yourself the winner of a bet when the date you're betting about hasn't come yet.

So does the mean you think the game will be out after november? I doubt that. But yes, technically you don't do the whole declaring thing but this is pretty much a sure thing. 99.999999% chance of winning. Unless some massive catastrophe occurs at valve.

Like I said, he's quite stubborn. He rarely lets me get a word in edgewise... and he doesn't believe me. :(

Id love to agree with you, but frankly theirs simply no proof or details to back it up. And with the past as sketchy as a Oj Simpson case well its hard telling.

And I would also like to add that the game is done in most respects. All that's left is bug squashing. Do you really think it's going to take valve 2 months to squash a few bugs (which are mainly with CS:S anyways).

Textures are done. Sounds are done. Dialogue is done. Levels are done. Coding is almost done (bugs).

What else is there?

this thread is pointless, it's just you trying to reassure yourself that the game will be out by a specific date.

And trying to create any discussion as to why the game isn't done by now. I mean, what the hell is left anyways?

And yes, we at least know the textures are done due to the preload.
 
I'll reassure my sad self that the game will be out before Nov. 1st, don't see nothing wrong with that

Well it wasn't an E-mail directly from them. It was a friend of my dads who decided to inform him of the eb date change. Sorry for the confusion.
 
it looks pretty done, the new binks should prove that. If only my computer would get here in 2 months...

We have no idea how many bugs are left in the HL2 single player. You only know of all the bugs for CS:S because of the beta. I'm sure there are probably just as many in SP too.

So we have no idea when it will come out. Though I sincerely doubt it would be delayed until november considering the preload.

Yes actually he's quite smart. But regardless, I'd like to think I know more about a game I've been following every day since e32k3 as opposed to his well...not following the game at all.

i could swear Valve said there was only bug squashing left just after E3.

wich was more than 2 months ago.

so yes... i do think that your dad **COULD** may very well be getting a lovely little early christmass present this year.

Uh....back on topic, I'm with iamaelephant on this one: Time will tell. After so many stops and starts this game has gone through I really have no idea when to expect it out.

you really have all this faith in valve after all that's happened don't you? all that i can say is : well, maybe they're right this time, and hl2 won't be delayed another bunch of months, otherwise, poor dear, you will have to pay for the game 2 times since you are wrong.. (although i'd really enjoy if you won that 50 buck)
 
I'm quite positive that you've virtually already earned those 50 bucks. Like you said, Valve wouldn't pre-load the game two months before release. Of course anything can happen, an asteroid could crush Valve's offices and destroy everything HL2 related. Or some guy could accidentally format all the hard drives taht have HL2 data. But if that doesn't count, November looks too far away.
 
Why don't you send valve an email, you never know, they might answer!
