First off, how do you think Gordon ends up on the beach there in the beginning of the level? We all know that this level takes place after Ravenholm and before Nova Prospekt. But when does it actually occur? Where did that man come from? The one who lets you in the gate before you fight your way up the hillside. Why did the Combine not see him or harass him? Also, what are your opinions about the end where he says something to the effect of "Were are you going you are getting all fuzzy around the edges" after he invites you over for dinner. Finally, was this the only headcrab pod launcher? If it was it doesn't make sense in the story because in Anticitizen One, we see them landing all around us in battle. Maybe they repair it? I don't know.

It's a prequil to HL2(i'm almost positive). I'm pretty sure that didn't actualy happen to Gordon storywise(just like uplink). And of course it's not the only launcher.

Theres more than one launcher, but I assume the coast one is closest Ravenholm, and therefore they get fired from there.

I don't think its a prequel, at all. Infact, I don't know what to think.

I heard that it showed the headcrab shelling of Ravenholm, therefor, prequil.

I don't think any of Lost Coast is to be takin as official HL2 storyline. Maybe if the Gman stepped in and said "hey, could you do a favor for an old fishing buddy of mine? it'll only take a second"..... So I say don't think so hard over something that's probably nothing.

Allegedly, its a cut chapter from the coast. So I'd assume it happened somewhere around Highway 17.

The Combine aren't stupid, they have more than one Headcrab cannon.

tech demo
its not part of the story at all
just an alternative story that wasnt followed

It was supposed to be part of the storyline before. And as AL said, it takes place somewhere along Highway 17. Probably on that long strech of road
between (X) and (Y).

Its part of the story, but no longer an official part of HL2.

I'm currently playing thru the substance mod, and I hope to take a break and play thru Lost Coast once I get to that section of the story, so I
can make it a part of my experience of playing thru HL2.

To the Lab!

LC is:

A) An alternate ending like Uplink or the 'wrong' choice in HL1.
B) The result of Gordon's first teleportation accident with Lamarr (going fuzzy when he teleports back into C17 and he got amnesia somehow in the process).
C) Part of a future game.

Comparing it to Uplink is pretty good actually; same universe, same person, just totally unrelated to the main game.

You heard wrong, it doesn't show that, therefore, its not a prequel. Its set during the coast chapter.

or maybe its just a tech demo for the HDR technology ?

Well it must be one of the maps at the very start or end of the coast seeing as there's no buggy. I'd say it might have been the original link between Ravenholm and the Coast.

Edit: Well, it's defenatly not part of the storyline but it is part of the story in the sense that it reveels part of the HL universe.

There's no continuity in it because it was part of a few chapters from the Coast maps that where cut. It could be considered cannon if you stretched your imagination a bit. I'd consider it just a tech demo for now.

The best bit of the Lost Coast is where you go through the secret door and get chased by biozeminades!

The best part is definately the Jetpack Biozemenaides with the plasma guns and combine strippers.

I think the 'fuzzy around the edges' is a bit of Valve humour alluding to the way HDR works, making objects become less distince when there is light behind them. Reading a bit too much into it, there's no continuation of the story.

I think it's definately about Gordon teleporting somewhere, hence it fading out at that point. Nice way to end it imo.

He is speaking in metaphore about how Gordon is leaving if you actually saw someone litterally become fuzzy at the edges you would'nt be that calm you'd probably be screaming OMGWTFBBQ!

Well he did seem rather calm about the combine too.

Who uses the metaphor "You're getting fuzzy around the edges" to someone leaving?

Also, how is Gordon leaving when he's not moving from that box? And even if he does leave that box, how is he going to get any where? Leeches stop him swimming out (which would be rather pointless anyway) and there's no way to reach that town, or indeed even get past that area, which is of course due to map limitations, but the principle is still there.

He rejected his offer to lunch so he said "You're getting fuzzy around the edges."

Gordon never talks to make you think that you are Gordon this is just a tactic to make you think that you are talking to him saying stuff like "STFU n00b I'm not comming."

I think that because that guy (How do you know he's a fisher?) wasn't running around in circles because of the Combine that it is just a tech demo and makes no diffrence to the story, I don't see how it could.

None of it (imo) makes any difference to the story, it's just I strongly believe that the "fuzzy around the edges" is a reference to Gordon teleporting. It's the perfect way to get Gordon in and out of a pretty isolated place, gives a tiny bit more reason to the end than simply "Mission Complete" and fading out.

Also, I'm pretty sure one of the commentaries refers to the character as "the fisherman". Of course, most of the fish will be dead, and the only thing for a fisherman to catch now would be the leeches, which he mentions as the main course of the dinner. ;)

Even if it's just a tech demo, Valve created a character, and gave him a calm, almost apathetic attitude towards the combine and Gordon teleporting.

As taken as part of the actual story of Gordon Freeman, it makes little sense. However, everything within the Lost Coast can be taken as "Stuff that exists". Headcrab cannons actually look like that, and there probably is quite a few around the coast. And they actually put convenient signs warning people not to stick their hands in working machinery.

Ok we both have different views about it let us not repeat ourselves.

In the leaked alpha you were on a tanker with the Colonel and it was being taken over by zombies and such, the tanker could have crashed onto the lost coast and begun the coast area of the game (since Valve said that the Lost Coast was originally apart of coast)

Either that or this thread is shit, and I am going to go with that.

U know Dlamari could be right? When you star t LC take a look behind you, theres a huge wreck of a giant tanker.... Hmmm how did that get there?

It was a puzzle that VALVe removed.

Did you not play through with the commentary on? It's lotsa fun :)

My guess is that the section once WAS a part of the storyline, involving some form of elaborate transportation to get you there, but after VALVe decided to make it a tech demo, they ripped the transportation and such from the sector so that it could stand on its own.

I am just about to listen to the commentary, It could be part of the storyline though lol?

I'm pretty sure 'getting fuzzy around the edges' is slang for looking ill (like you're about to pass out).
But it does leave it plenty vague so that it might mean that Gordon is teleporting.

Is the player character ever directly refered to as Gordon?

Im sure its just an alternative thing that could happen during Highway 17. Just you cant do it in HL2.
