Lost Coast ETA Winter 2005

it isn't that hard to do hdr, devil may cry 3 and splinter cell 3 have it. valve is trying to say you need a $2000+ computer when both the ps2 and the xbox can do it after 5 years. its just bullshit to sell video cards

their not using true HDR

probably light blooms

The high system specs have a lot more to do with the insane level of detail in all the textures and models than with the HDR itself

SC:CT has HDR but only on PCs with cards that support SM3 (as of now, only nvidia's 6xxx series). DMC3 does not have it.

What the hell is wrong with you guys? Winter 05 is just over. It is barely spring. And remember that Lost Coast was supposed to come out this winter, but of course being Valve they can't release anything on time. ANYTHING. So this is probably just an old release date from the original press release. I don't know why I care because Valve has saw fit to deem my rig unworthy, but oh well.

@ mime genocide...it's not bullshit to sell video cards, HDR is very easy to fake, but it's not particularly convincing when you see it for real. I don't actually think there are any games on xbox with HDR. Possibly Splinter Cell.

@ Gossoon...Winter 05 isn't over, it's the end of the Winter 04..Winter 05 starts a lot later this year. and as for Valve never releasing anything on time, well, not only is it not true..it's sooo ****ing difficult to be able to predict when this sort of work will be finished.

Quit your ****ing whining

The Xbox graphics card couldn't handle HDR. I mean it takes a top of the line Gfx card for today to render it.

The Lost Coast Levels will not only feature HDR, but also alot more detail & everything else.

I highly doubt the minimum specs would be,
3.2ghz
1gig ram
Top of the line gfx.

1)What would push the processor up so high? Most of those things would be on the GPU not the CPU.
2)More than 1 gig of ram kinda makes it go slower.
3)Can't do any better than the top of the line.
4)If any more ram makes it go slower, and you can't get a better gfx processor..what the hell would be the recommended Specs?

Lets see...someone posted that in a thread..other people kinda took it as the truth...yeah...

There won't be anything to stop people downloading and trying the Lost Coast levels. If it doesn't run on their PC, then it's just a case of 'bad luck old chap'.

I mean what else can they do apaprt from upgrade to get it to run. It'll either run on your PC or it won't. If it doesn't, well what can you do?

'The Lost Coast' is just gonna be another level but with HDR, they're adding HDR to the entire engine, it's gonna be a level made for people with high end machine to sorta 'celebrate' them adding HDR to the engine. It's gonna be a very detailed level basically

does anyone know if Lost coast is going to be 64bit? because if it is i should be all set even with out upgrading.

No, this was Winter 04, Winter 05 doesn't start for another 9-10 months there buddy. And they never had a release date for the Lost Coast at all. You need some glasses or something, VALVe has said they won't be doing release dates ever again, unless they are 100% it will be done then.

Now why are you restating what I just got done saying?

Lost Coast will only be released to guys, that have the specs..... not just anyone else, as was said.....
Damn, I have 3.1 gb Processer.... I need 3.2....

No its being released to everyone with HL2.

My thread I'll ask this here. My comp is an Athlon 64 3500+ with 1 gig of RAM. GPU is x800 Pro 256meg. But apparently the processor is only 2.2 gHz????? I figured my comp should be able to play Lost Coast no prob?? Anyone able to clarify?

yeah Cunni you'll be absolutely fine. I know i will, and mine's a A64 3200+ with 1 gig and a agp 6800gt. It's gonna run smooth as butter.

AMD Processor's run at 'slower' speeds than Pentium's but they run faster :s

So basically, the 3500+ means it runs at the equivelant of a Pentium 3.5Ghz, that's my understanding of it anyway. and of course yours is a 64bit processor so..

I don't get why so many people with specs like this are asking if it's good enough, you can't really buy things much better, it has to run it!

Lost Coast is going to stretch your video card more than your processor...

And how exactly would Valve do that? That would be wrong, surely - restricting people from getting something because their PC's specs weren't up to scratch? How would Valve decide? Using their hardware survey results? What if the incorrectly reported the graphics card or the CPU?

Nah. It'll be available to everyone - but Valve will stress that it should only be run on bla bla bla spec PCs. Even if they don't release it to everyone, how long will it be before it appears on the 'net anyway? Everyone will get Source upgraded with HDR anyway, so it'll just be a case of finding the map and loading it up, surely?

Ooh, and I just found this on the Steam forums as well.

Who Will Get "Lost Coast?"
All Half-Life 2 owners. Whether your computer can handle it will be something else.
