Lounge Rooms

From what I have heard, HL2 will have both the ability to broadcast streaming video from ingame cameras to the internet (a la HLTV) and also asign "video" textures to objects (as in the tech demo camera). Therefore would it be possible to create a lounge where there are multiple video displays showing a live match in another server? This would be especialy cool since most clans have both public servers and private match servers, so that the public could watch the match from ingame.

Thats the first time I heard of it. Where did you find that info?

Someone e-mailed Gabe about it, and the Lounge idea specifically, and he said 'sounds like a good idea' or something.

It really does sound cool.

Fun idea: Attach cameras onto neutral characters and have them film the action, like field reporters.

Nah I know you could do a lounge room. It's the streaming video part that I never heard about. :dozey:

Didnt they had this "only 1 camera per area" limit some time ago? Any word if its already solved?

That would be awesome.;)

Yea, 1 camera per section of the map, but it is probably not a technical limitation.

I would love to do that :)

Sounds like leagues could get a whole lot more interesting.

This sounds really cool, finally be able to have proper security cameras in SP levels.

i do this now on paltalk gaming rooms, i play games and it shows on my camera and people get to watch. the programs name is Softcam its by luminositi. but yes it would be cool if they added that feature since softcam cannot stream fullscreen, only windowed.

Oh my....I can see it now...

Soon there will be not only clans and leagues but unions and guilds as well...

The players would have to be issued SFG cards(Screen Fraggers Guild)

And at the end of the year..."now accepting the Gordon for ""Best Supporting Fragger""......"

Seriously tho it is an intriguing concept....anyone remember the article or site they read it in/on?

Yeah,

It was my email to Gabe about the lounges, it's in the Info from valve thread somewhere.

As far as the one area thing, my guess is it will cause instability to have two cameras focused on the same pixel or something like that.

omg, that's bad ass. Too bad no one will bother to do it, or it wouldn't catch on, because that would be really awesome.

Gabe said it is a technical limitation right now. Have the 2 cameras facing each other and all hell breaks loose.

Yeah, that would be awsome!

you coul build a cinema map, and have people watch matches :)

Instead of HLTV, you've got an ingame camera streaming to another server or whatnot. That server that's recieving the information can be running the "movie cinema" program where people can come and spectate from a room that looks like a movie theater...

or not.

But the lounge idea is pretty bad ass.

^^ crap, I should start reading above posts...

imagine the machinima that can be made with the ingame field reporter type of camera!! Of course the 'reporter' would be a non-existant entity so that people doing the machinima wouldn't run into 'him' or even see 'him', 'he' would only be there to record....

Its cool,
but would it take alot of the connection BW?
