Low Detail Config Needed

Hiya, sorry to be a pain in the a**e. I've tried lookin around and used forum search whatever on here and steam.

I don't seem to be able to find a low detail config for HL2, HL2-DM or CS:S. Actually my css one isn't too bad but could be pushed lower i think. Basically i'm looking for something that will make my HL2 look like an atari game. Or as close as =]

I favour fps over gfx quality and my pc aint too great. Athlon XP 1700 (runs at 1.47 i think), Radeon 9800 (not pro), 1gb of ram, if anyone can help it would be appreciated, thx.
 
Your PC should give you 60 fps. Anything above that isn't even a noticeable improvement :p
 
Haha, well it doesn't, so can we stick to what i asked for please to save confusion.
 
That tweak guide i gave u gives u the abiity to do it for urself, instead of just dloading a file which cud be corrupt, but fairdo's, do what u want.
 
Yeah i know mate, but that's not what i'm after. I've already done the tweakguides thing and the variables don't push the gfx low enough. I'm just asking for a super low detail config or a link to one, i know there's one out there...there has to be...
 
umm seriously dude you should be getting good fps with everyything low even resolution. the only other thing to do is force direct x 7 but then it kind of defeats the purpose of using the source engine

I'm actually puzzled as to how it could run badly.

But what sort of locked FPS are you after?

Like constant 100?
 
dude seriously you might as well get 1.6 theres no other to get better performance unless you upgrade the proccesor
 
Oh man, where is that ULTRA low config file when you need it :D
It made HL2 look worse than Quake, lol

How about we run thru sum XP tweaks? U r running Winxp right?

As if ur windows is not optimised, ie fragmented drive, spyware/adware leeching on ur files, unneccesary programs running in the background all this can contribute to massive slow downs on ur games.

I suggest u go thru this guide to get the best out of ur PC & Games, then try HL2 again.

The guy up there says "damn where's that ultra low config that makes hl2 look like quake"....

No thanks, shouldn't have to. Just want a low detail config. Hell will freeze over and melt though before i get one, by the looks of these replies.

A frozen hell would be lovely for overclocking your computer :p
 
I have't got a high performance cfg for ya, but i have a few commands, that u can input via the icon on STEAM.

If u open steam, right click the icon for the game, in this case HL2, goto properties, set launch options..type this in the box.

+map_background none -heapsize xxx000 (where xxx is u place half ur system ram, eg 1GB = 512000 -dxlevel 90 -refresh xx (input here ur max supported refresh rate) if u overide this dont put this command in)

EDIT..

To use it, copy the text below to a paste it into a wordpad? name it what u like eg myconfig.cfg, and place it in

"c:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\prejudice\half life 2\hl2\cfg\prejudice.cfg" (this is the default place btw)

Make a copy of the original so you can refer back to the original if n e probs occur

Once in the game, enter the console (press "`", next to the one key and the tab key), and type "myconfig.cfg". Pressing enter will execute your lovely new config.
