low framerate

i get a real low fram rate wen playin CS:S... like 35-40fps...

i set my resolution and options low, and i used cl_smooth = 0 and increased my rate to like 30000.

yet i still get crappy gameplay!

my rig:

AMD XP1700+ (1.47 gig)
1.5gig of DDR333 PC3200 RAM
Leadtek NForce2 mobo
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro (128mb ram)

now, i know its not top of the line, but it handled doom 3 with insane graphics, but HL2 gives it a hard time...

It's your processor. The source games are processor intensive and yours is a bit slow ( 1.4 ghz ) try upgrading that. I've got the same video card and half your ram, but a faster processor and i'm getting at in city 17 anywhere from 20-60 fps and every where else, 60-120.
