LucasArts Shut Down

Raven made Jedi Outcast, LA got a production credit and did nothing.

Hahah yeah, Raven made both the Jedi outcast/academy games, and the Star Trek Elite Force games.

AND I MUST SO I AM PROUD TO BE FROM WISCONSIN THAT STUDIO (RAVEN) IS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ID AND LUCASARTS

I'll see myself out.

I suppose...
However, I still will never forgive them for letting the Soldier of Fortune series rot away.

So, uh, what was the last Star Wars game from LucasArts production that I liked?
...

Tie Fighter?

Jedi Knight changed my life. First game I ever played online. The best Star Wars game ever made in my opinion

So many good memories with this company. RIP

it sounds like they want 3rd party developers to create Star Wars titles instead of having Lucasarts shit the bed on every release.

good. ive wanted a new X-Wing Alliance or Dark Forces....since forever

At first I immediately thought of all my favourite Star Wars games (KOTOR, Jedi Outcast, Battlefront), then I realized they were all developed by other companies (Bioware, Raven, Pandemic).

So... I guess I'm still sad, but the gems that LucasArts actually developed seemed to be long behind them anyways. Hope 1313 gets picked up by another publisher.

Maybe they'll let Telltale or Double Fine use some of the adventure game IPs.

Good call. I'm not of that nostalgia demo but I hope you're right. On another note, the silver lining here could be that we see more investment in smaller, more inventive game studios.

I feel like people need to let Monkey Island go. If it comes back, you're going to get Lion King 2, no matter how tightly strapped your nostalgia glasses are. It's a goddamn Disney property now.

I mean, the original Lucas gang want it because they think fondly of it and specifically don't want to see Super Smash Monkey Two: Electric Boogalloo

The big money guys want it because there's money in catering to an aging, jaded public who want to feel 16 again when their only worry in the world was whether or not they got the keys to the minivan for the weekend to sneak into an R-rated movie.

It's a done thing. Not even in the same vein as Star Wars or Trek, I think it needs to be buried. **** you all.
Hell, look at BadHat's link, literally "Grumpy Gamer." Hilariously illustrative of the aforementioned.

Things change, artists age, audiences shift, I hope he finds a niche but I think he should probably write coloring books.

If Naughty Dog or Crystal Dynamics did Indy Jones and Naughty Dog ditched Sony via magic I'd be in an alternate universe where women's clothes just flew off when I looked at them. I hope to live in that universe one day.

I loved Star Wars: Force Unleashed. Got to the end of the 2nd one but never got around to finishing it.

Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars, but I got tired of LA pushing out the same type of game every year. I missed the Old classic like S & M, Indy, and so forth. But I guess they thought there money maker was Star Wars and nothing else.

I honestly had no idea they still did in-house until I started reading about 1313. P.S. Creative Assembly died. RIP

Mute the video before you watch, music is brain melting Also: gross and silly gore. Combat sound replace by a foul tune. Fun organ placement and removal with blended suffering animation framed into ragdoll (albeit tarantino'esque). Also skeletons are physically modeled with extensive and adjustable breaking points, so you can see a forearm bone stripped of flesh with raw muscle tissue oozing blood at the base anytime folks!

Enjoy this low-rez yet hilariously and grossly violent... thing:

!

There's certainly better out there but this is a good example of exposing aspects of Raven's additions to Id Tech that really changed how I thought about interactivity and flexibility of combat in action games. Seems progressive in the community modded servers now... I can't imagine what's to come

So Raven did the coolest thing ever and gave out those source codes ey... Wisconsin once again triumphs in gaming or something blah blah.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/jediacademy/

Where's my Freeware melee combat greatness with telekinesis and dismemberment? Hurry up nerds. This means G.H.O.U.L. 2 middleware (gore porn for Id Tech) is now public domain. Jedi Academy uses the lauded Soldier of Fortune 2 tech that has yet to be surpassed in digitally representing the act of brutalizing someone.

Somebody make a Richochet/Tron type game more violent than any of these stupid shooting boxes that dominate game sales. I'm talking way more awkward than the somewhat disturbing juxtaposition of extreme violence and Pixar looking characters in TF2.

Think of the potential! Something like Conker's Bad Fur Day but with more melee and no hat transaction or excessive weapon and stat bloat. Hell, no multiplayer. This is now your design document, you're welcome.

"a core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres."

Seriously though.
"a core gaming audience" || "the most popular game genres." == Generic Half-Arsed FPS Titles
"spanning all interactive platforms" == Mobile
Frustrating shit.

Here's to another decade of bad StarWars games. *clink*

*sobs into drink*

The only positive I can think of is maybe EA will be able to front a space-sim and be able to absorb the costs.

Can't wait to pay for in game fuel and access to hyperspace.

they'll probably just blow up the mobile phone and faceook game market. also space madden. lots of mictrotrans.

maybe they'll do some cute dead space, star wars cross-fic game isaac can be a jedi, etc.

FarmVille: Tatooine

Actually, come to think of it, maybe EA will be the ones to make the third trilogy, only in videogame form?

That is the worst news ever. Bioware already ****ed up Kotor with the Old Republic, just give it to Obsidian. Please.

Obsidian is too small to manage an IP with demands that large and public. Maybe... um... Bethesda or Deep Silver or some shit?

Actually, 2K is a perfect fit.

EA has exclusive rights. Only EA owned development studios will make StarWars games.
