Everyone needs a hobby.

My brother Peter's hobby is this arcade he built next to his house.

Luna City Arcade 2008

Bathroom

Upstairs - All Day Movie Screenings - 'Chasing Ghosts' (brother did the CGI)

I think his wife and children are very lucky to have this arcade!

Discuss.

Nice. Does he have to pay a liscence to show the films ?

Man, I haven't been to an arcade in ages.

The arcade is the building on the right. I like the staircases leading to it.

See my brother did this 'open house' as a fund raiser for 2 different places. Mainly for his best friend, who's son has cancer and they want to try an experimental treatment (insurance won't cover it), or he won't make it.

The arcade is completely free. The machines take quarters to play (brother likes it this way), but the coin machine gives you 4 quarters just by pressing a button.

He's going to get his own tokens made, but want's to perfect the design of them.

Some more machines showing up:

He just had that building built. It was originally in his basement. This new building is much bigger and has plenty of room for more.

I didn't really get to play much because I took about 100 pictures and didn't stay long.

I noticed he had several new games. I had been asking him to get Pole Position II for years and I see he got it! :D He has to fix it though, it's not working yet :(

That's pretty neat. Your brother must be loaded with cash to do that though :D. Lucky you.

Good stuff man. The carpeting in that place is awesome.

holy shit, how much did all that cost?
Not sure. The building was expensive. The machines aren't usually but a few hundred dollars and my brother fixes them and restores them. He did everything himself.

3rd picture down from top, there are flickering stars and a galaxy projected onto the wall of the Space Invaders. It's genius.

EDIT - the power company had to come out and install a separate power grid, normally used for all the houses on a street.

Forgot to mention, there were the highest scorers of all time there that day. Whoever got the highest score ever recorded in Pac-Man and other classic games. Some of those guys were there.

Not all of them of course. There are just too many games. But some of them. Some of them were also featured in the film being screened.

Starting to make sense?

So this cabinet my brother was going to get rid of, but I told him I want it. It's an old Q-Bert machine. I need to sand it down and paint it black, and I'm turning it into a MAME cabinet. I'm going to put the biggest monitor that will fit in it.

If you don't know what a MAME cabinet is, it's either an old arcade game or a scratch built arcade machine that plays nearly every arcade game that was ever made, using a PC.

so this is how it looks before I start any work on it:

When I'm done it will look something like this

That's damn cool, hope he raises enough money for his friends son.

This is so ****ing awesome. I've always fancied having my own arcade...

I wouldn't suggest copying that particular MAME cabinet word-for-word. Also, wouldn't a CRT TV work better than a monitor? I highly doubt you need the higher resolution.

I suggest getting your brother's help; it'll turn out a lot better. Or better yet, pay your brother to do it. :cheese:
