This is my M4a1, which is still a work in progress. I will be adding the huge 70's nightvision scope to it, just to make it unique. (Scope: http://world.guns***/assault/m4a1an-pws4.jpg ) It weighs in at about 2000 polies right now, un-optimized. It is my first low poly model that is... high poly :p And on the third image, the very dark spot is just a missing poly.

i think the face is acctually inverted john if it were missing it would be see through god your a noob :|

get rid of the hole in the stock. Wast of polies. No one will see the stock close enough as a view model..

Still not optimized :) This is just the showy version.

And I do plan on texturing this beast. By the way, no normal smoothing yet, and to clear up the black spot is indead a missing polygon... I would know considering I modeled it.

Normal smoothing is the Maya way of smooth groups. Just a different term, same eggecy. All it does is blend the lighting between faces so that the model appears to have more polygons.

I dont understand the handle thing youve created, ive never seen a M4 like that.

ChrisArt: The handle you're talking about is on most M4's. It is simply a way of attaching sights, optics, and what not onto a gun. Their are also a few other 'rails' which I decided not to model. Mostly on the front hand-grip.

Redhollowpoint: Bad lighting :)

1) coolhead chrisart actually did an m4 model quite recently u might want to look it up hes talking about ur handle not the rail ..
2)what hollowpoint was talking about was the model is actually quite thing and it looks like the other side isnt modeled ...looks like it still needs to be mirrored

mindless: Oops, misunderstood that. When most people talk about the handle on an m4/m16 they are talking about the rear sight. I looked at some of Chris's recent models, and I must say, they look pretty sweet.

And for the model being thin, I have it mirrored and everything, and it doesn't look too thin to me. So I assumed it was simply bad lighting that was causing the confusion.

maybe it is but ur reluctant to show us the middle lol ..we just see renders of the side hehehe .....any updates?

All of the modelling looks pretty good. I can't wait to see it finished with the gigantohuge scope. It does look slightly thin, and not because of the so-called "bad lighting." Making it a little thicker would really add a lot to the model. It shouldn't take too long, but just make sure all the cylinders remain proportional.

I want to see the scope :frown:

crikey! With that on the m4, ingame you won't be able to see most of the screen! :S

again it still looks thin :| mainly the carry handle and the fore sight.

Trying to fix this at the moment, but its not as easy as simply scaling it out, I have to move a bunch of vertices which is becoming a pain.

that looks cool i hope you a good skinner it wud be a shame for this to go to waste.

looks neat. ;)

I agree that it's thin thougg... look at the magazine. The bullets inside are staggered..
Code:
O
 O
O
 O

not like
Code:
O
O
O
('cept the spacing is tighter ;) )
So the mag only looks thihck enough to be one round "wide", when it should be more.
