With RIS system, i think thats what its called.

wireframe + faces ? cause it looks pretty high face count :)
but it is very nice tho

Poly count is 4000, it looks high poly cause of the smooth groups i used. Mind you it still is pretty high poly :p. I'll post a wire later today.

That is an exorbitant amount of polygons for what it looks like. Can we have a wireframe?

RIS systems always look more "MEAN" if u take of the plastic hand rails.

The skin will take care of most of the details. If i put the groves all over the barrel covers thats a hell of a lot of polys.

Anyway heres a wire. Now of course some ones going to say o i could get rid of 200 polys easy, well good for you :)

Muchos problemos:
  • I can only see a couple of cylinders that have this problem, but I am guessing they all do and I just cannot see them. In Max 4 and down (I presume you're using Max 4) they screwed up the cylinder algorithm and it put a vertex in the middle of the front and back of all primitive cylinders. This is an easy fix if you just target weld that middle vertex to the side, this will save a polygon or two.
  • The magazine is very unevenly curved, it would look better if all the segments were the same length and with the same amount of bend.
  • The forward assist is too long and not thick enough.
  • The butt plate of the stock is supposed to gradually get thinner as it goes down, it is not just a curved rectangle. Look at a ref pic to see what I mean.
  • On the litte bent thing at the bottom of the stock, you wasted a lot of polies modelling it hollow. Even though it is hollow in real life, you will not be seeing this part in the first person view, and for third person models it will be polywastage.
  • Both cylinders involved in the shape of the stock look too skinny.
  • The RIS foregrip looks too skinny.
  • The ejector port cover looks like it needs to be a little bit taller.
  • If you're going to model the rail on the top of the receiver, then atleast model all of them, you just modelled half of them.
  • The whole gun itself looks too thin.
  • The safety switch needs to be longer and not as deep.
  • The flash hider should be thicker compared to the barrel.
  • The RIS covers are too smooth.
  • Could I see a shaded wireframe viewport screenshot of both sides of the receiver? It is hard to tell whether or not they are accurate or not.
Whew.

PS: If you want to see how my M4 model looks, I could show you. I'm not saying that it is perfect, but I think it is more accurate than yours. Oh yeah, and no, the one I am talking about is not the one that is currently on my website.

Well its a nice model and all, but im really getting sick of these generic models.

Yeah i'll take that into consideration :dozey:

I hope you were being sarcastic, I really do.

why dont you post a few pics of yours ?

and then you can let the peanut gallery decide whos is better.

what's a generic model ? :p *kuch*

+ that Colt has WAYY to many poly's, by the look of the wireframe i could get rid of about 500+ poly's ;p (ruff guess) :p

Anyway if you did you would be sacrifice detail. I reckon ice done a top job optimizing this.

Also this aint a compitition here. I was just showin you guys a model, screw doin that again :p

I do not see any real extravagent detail, maybe if you could show us a shaded wireframe viewport screenshot? A big image, hopefully?

As you requested, here are some pictures of my M4 model:

No i didnt request you to post thoughs pics. Thought you where the one who said it isnt polite to post other models in people threads.
Nice model by the way but its not the point. Not too sound like an uter fag head but I mean are you just trying to show me up or something by posting them, seriously this is a legit question not dickhead comment?

And yeah your comment about the rails on top, thought i did do them all i'll have to find a better reference to get them all.

Anyway as requested heres a shaded wire for all interested.

Back on topic, your model does not really look like 4000 polygons. You are missing a lot of detail, and I really do not know how you managed to get it to 4000.
