MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH -Teleportation Sucessful-

First invisibility, and now this! Whatever they're putting in the scientist's coffee, I want some!

Great! Perfect way for Steam to distribute HL2! Teleportation!

Unfortunately thats optical camoflauge isn't as cool as you think it is. In fact your not actually invisible. You have to have a projector project images from the back of you into the front. Actually quite simple technology and hardly any uses since it's not mobile.

:naughty: Scientists PWN! One big step for mankind and computer nerds such as us!!!

Uhhhhh....Would that mean I can finally teleport a drink from the fridge to my desk without getting up?

Yes. But it would take a week and it would taste real poison.

okay, they can teleport shizzle, but yet we dont have flying cars...........come on already.

Dang news sources always seem to exagerate/misunderstand things with their headlines. It's not teleportation at all. It's the transfer of the quantum state of one atom to another. Not actually any sort of mass teleportation.

Though doesn't make it any less of a breakthrough of course.

It sure isn't anything related to mass teleportation but a step forward in technology. Rome wasn't built in one day..yeah right :/ But this really could mean that in a year 2050 we could have these super uber computers though. Maybe you need one to play hl 10 :D

The day they teleport actual molecules across a room will be the day i get excited about teleportation.

Yeah same here.

Well, neither is this teleporter thingy -- but it's almost cool!

You have to admit, the fact that such a technology exists is staggering to say the least.

Yeah, i remember reading about this about 2 months ago and if i remember wasnt it the case that in theory you could "teleport" someone with this... only you would have killed them and created another copy of them :)

Moraly wrong i supose but cool none the less, must hurt though :D

Im no physicist but it sounds to me like they didn't actually move any atoms, they just transferred the "quantum states"

When physicists talk about "teleportation", they are describing the transfer of "quantum states" between separate atoms.

These would be such things as an atom's energy, motion, magnetic field and other physical properties.
So really they didn't physically take that atom and move it to another location where there was no atom before, they just performed a sort of switch between atoms. I could be wrong, and of course it is still a huge breakthrough, but don't get to excited about distant future mass matter transporters yet.
