Make FF7 in Source?

I know to a lot of people this sounds ridiculously ambitious and I don't even know if many HL2 fans or mod makers like Final Fantasy, but think of this scenario:

1-The Final Fantasy community is very large (maybe not as large as HL2, I don't know) and many of us from the FF community have been wishing for a remake of FF7 in better graphics; basically make FF fans really happy

2-HL2 community gets a whole lot bigger all of a sudden and many FF fans buy HL2 because now there is HL2 and a revamped version of FF7 to go with it, producing more revenue for (you guessed it!!!) Valve, your favourite game developer.

See, everybody wins, but we just need some person(s) to make one. I know this came out of nowhere, but I, like many others, are dying to play a revamped version (pretty much just graphics) of FF7.

Please, I am not asking to be criticized or anything, just thought this would be pretty cool. :afro: funny cuz I actually do have a (smaller) fro.

I don't think the Half-Life community could get any bigger to be honest...

if somehow this even got started it would be shutdown before it was 2% done by square.

Wrong forum, I think, but I would defenitly buy it, FF7 is the only FF game I actually like.

QFT (quoted for truth)

square enix recently came down on some talented people that were making a sequel to chrono trigger using real GameCube development kits. it was a shame too, because the game looked incredible considering it wasn't made by a large/wealthy game studio.

moved. And, as stated before, it's violate copyright laws and whatnot.

i think if you wanna see some ff7 action with stunning graphics just wait until advent children comes out.

that would take a long long time to make ... remember how huge that game was?

Yea that would take forever. Ignoring the whole copyright issue there is still a number of obstacles. First off, hl2 is an fps with driving game elements, ff7 is an rpg. Making the genre transition would be no easy task (just ask the people who made hl rally), you would basically need a small army of coders, modelers, animators, texture artists, and mappers. Hate to stomp on your dream, but it's not gonna happen. Like Armanguy said, just wait for advent children. Granted its not a game, but the graphics are gonna blow away anything hl2 is capable of.

...how is it difficult? ff7 has like 3 camera angles per scene. do you know how easy it is to code that? genre has nothing to do with it. i think its a stupid idea. sorry if i sound negative.

Yes it's possible - but it's just a stupid idea. Why not make an original RPG.

The comment about camera angles is kinda baseless, it would still be tons of maps to make. Genre has everything to do with it. You would need to transplant the battle system, inventory, etc. in order to make it play anything like ff7. And seeing as how square won't be sharing that info anytime soon you would need to code all that stuff yourself. Obviously it is possible since square made the game in the first place, but they are a huge team of professionals who were getting paid to do it. This would be a team of amateurs doing it in their spare time.

hmm..to the original poster: do u mean recreate the FF7 story fps style?
i guess that would be cool...but like already mention, Square wouldn't like that.

An FPS RPG i.e. TES would be nice. However, I want to see a FPS RPG with fully coperative AI that helps you in combat.

:-\ coding the battle system, etc. isn't hard, it's just time consuming, etc.
