Ok, I know this sounds far fetched, but I would like to start a halflife 2 mod without knowing how to code, or make models. I have made maps for halflife and im pretty good with photoshop. I dont want to sound like i expect people to work for me, while i sit back and relax. I am looking for a means for creating what I think would be the most detailed and greatest mod ever made.

I have a lot of very good ideas that could make a mod better than any of the mods ive seen being developed so far for halflife2.

So my idea is to get as much information and concepts as possible, before i share them, then organize it (getting some concept art/written details). Do you guys think anybody would be interested in helping under these conditions?

I know its unrealistic but the concepts that i can visualize are definately worth some effort.

Once again i dont want to sound like i expect to find a team and just shout orders. I would do as much work as it takes, and learn as much as it takes dor things to work. Im not even interested in leading the project, I jus think these ideas that i have are very good and would be awsome to make a mod with.

Screw unrealistic. I want to do the same thing!

And I'm in the same boat as you!

Erm, really bad idea in my opinion... get at least 3 years of experience in your chosen dicipline.... or join another mod team and see how things are run, then maybe run your own mod. :)

I speak as a team leader... trust me, you need to do work too, and keep everyone motivated. Meh, I'm lucky, I got a great team to work with :D

thanks for the suggestions and replies. By the way I really don't care about being the team leader. If someone was willing I would let them lead. I'm very entheusiastic about this and above all want to see some of my ideas being used. do u guys think it would be a bad idea to post some of them on these forums?

That depends, how do you feel about having them ripped off by someone else. Once its in the public anyone can see it and if its just an idea with no proof you came up with it first they can always use it and claim it as their own.. It's upto you really, posting them you'd atleast get responses if it was any good or not, but you'd run the risk of someone else using it, depends how much you care about what you've come up with. Personally I wouldn't, not in a public group anyway.

I've avoided mentioning anything about the mod I plan on doing and just come up with lots of other crazy idea's to keep people from accidently coming up with the same one as mine. Give the public false info so they play with that instead of the real deal. Glad I'm doing that too after seeing what happened with the pirate and junkyard idea's :)

Do what im doing:

Spend a lot of time learning on your own and once you feel confident enough in your work start releasing mini-mods for whatever game your learning on. (A new level, skin, model, etc.)

That way you can build up a portolio and get feedback on your work. Once you think you are ready for being on a mod team start applying and hope for the best.

mullinator: I like that approach. What i think im gonna do is work on pieces and learn as much as i can and eventually try to put it all together. I would still appreciate help of course, and welcome anybody who wants to take part. i think I'll put some concept art up on these boards also.

also thanks for the advice about not posting features, i may post a few but nothing too unique :)
