Making a movie, requesting help.

Whats up guys, for school project we must do a small movie, of course we don't have any movie skills or what so ever. Only armed with a dvd cam recorder and Adobre Premiere Elements we have decided to start today. I managed to arrange the scripts and dialogues, of course, Mexicans are some lazy shits, and it's hard to get them to work on their part or come to the filming.

Do any of you have any tips or editing skills ?

1.) Dont wear a dress. Its hard to live down.
2.) If you run up to another guy and hump him on camera, make sure its edited out properly
3.) Dont use a VCR for editing

1) Music soundtracks make all the difference. Make sure to choose the appropriate ones.
2) Transition: make sure to learn them all perfectly before starting to use them.
3) Camera views: you can make pretty cool things with different angles. I'm sure you can find a book about which angle you need to use depend on the situation.
4) One slow-motion part well-made in a movie may be interesting.

I remember my class film.

I wore a dress (I was a regular drag queen actually), I humped another guy on camera and didn't edit it out correctly, we used the VCR for editing, and we had this incredibly complex plot (this was supposed to be a commercial and it was ten minutes long).

That's kind of creepy how you mentioned all those things Ikerous....who are you?!

Edit: Oh Christ, I just remembered, the original "cut" had me dressed up like a fairy at one point or another…that should never have been seen by anyone…but it was shown to the class regardless….horrible, horrible memories.

It was actually quite interesting
But we got a D cuz the stupid teacher couldnt follow our complex thinking process -_-

6.) Dont spend prolonged periods walking around with one leg behind your head
7.) Its prolly just better to not have your leg behind your head at all in the movie
8.) Dont pretend fight with hard painful smacking sticks o.<

May be a bit late in the game, but try to pick some actors/crew that are serious, and won't giggle and mess up their lines 99/100 takes.

editing properly will take a long time. Schedule atleast one day (24 hours) roughly depending on how long it is and what kind of editing you are going to do.

if you are director - your way goes, dont compromise

have appropriate music - it means a lot and sets an atmosphere and proper tone...if you are right, stick with what you have and dont listen to others

Just lessons from a movie i had to make once...my dad loved it cos he got to smack me across the head and push me off a chair (i think he was just waiting for the day )

Ok, first filming day, it wen't ok, I directed with multiple angle shots, not just a camera moving a following the actors, we also did a cool car scene, where we filmed with another car following from 2 positions. It's looking good, but editing will save the day, do you guys know any good editing software ?

Vegas 5 and Adobe Premiere are the front runners in the industry right now. Avid Xpress is alright too, but very complex and hard to get results. When you do get results, the overall product is not worth the time it took you to get it IMO.

Having edited with all of them, I recommend Sony Vegas 5. Easy to use and very powerful. :thumbs:

I swear by Ulead Mediastudio Pro (I have 6.5, 7 is out now). Its great, and I've never come across something I couldnt do in a movie. (My friends and I do this as a hobby)

It's also much cheaper. And you can download a 30-day free trial, to see if you like it or if you need something urgently to make a due date.
