Has anyone ever tried it before? It's an arcade cabinet emulator. I've been experimenting with it lately since all other emulators are basically dead now thanks to the Wii virtual console. Most Download links for many Genesis, NES, and SNES games have been closed for legal reasons since many of these games are no longer abandonware (Wii virtual console) They have once again become intellectual property to Nintendo which means all that's left for console emulators are most of the crappy games from that era. Meh.

Chrono Trigger? Forget it. Nintendo games? HOLY SHIT NO FORGET IT!

So I've been trying out MAME with little to no success so far. The problem with this emulator is that since it is programmed for many cabinet titles, there's alot of compatibility issues for many games stretching a couple decades worth of games. It really is complicated compared to console emulators.

If anyone's interested, could you please check into Super Battletoads (a.k.a Battletoads arcade) and see which latest version of mame can run it? I've checked already and the latest is 0.57b, but that version is so old there's not even a UI interface. I've lost my way from command prompt savviness these days and would rather not bother with this old version.

The GUI has made me weak. :(

these things worked better some years ago, when mame32 was still active.. played the shit out of neo geo games, alien versus predator, guerilla wars, missing in action, IK++

mame32 is still active, and it actually runs many games better than MAMEUI.

I like Mame Plus! 1.29 (I think)

The amount of working games has never been higher, I believe. Well this version is about a month old so that's probably not true any more.

But it doesn't really matter which 'branch' of Mame you use, because they are all based on Mame32's source ... right? Same working and non working games. I just like the extra features of Plus.

I'd definitely try newer versions before trying older versions. But yes, occasionally they break a game, for various reasons (like they were hacked to be made working or something)

Often, renaming the old roms will let them work on the new Mame, but other times it is the rom that is a bad dump.

They are mostly just so terrible. These games are mostly .. you know.. like from before the first home video game system came out. There are some Gems though, for sure.

I basically only play a couple of the games, like Pole Position, Blaster, and a couple others, then I go to my brother's house and play the real arcade machines. My brother got PolePos. recently and I haven't got to play it yet, but we are going on Saturday for another fund raiser my bro is having.

=->

I've been trying to get Battletoads arcade to work for some time now. I haven't tried renaming it to see if it'll work on a newer version, but I doubt it'll work.

^ It's listed as working in Mame Plus! 1.29 (which is based on a very recent build of Mame32)

I have no idea about any other versions

Use MAME32 Plus! Plus .117. I don't bother updating my romset regular because I dont see the need to if there are no major updates. Last time I updated was to play SF3.

Any way, Battletoads works fine here and has done on all the versions of MAME ive had iirc.

Don't sweat it dude, it's a game: use the graphic interface. I had MAME with the ArcadeOS front end running out of the Jamma cabinet in my living room until it occurred to me that the games were funner and better looking on the computer anyway.

I don't know what emulator i used to use but I never had to update it and I had plenty of games to play on it from the NES/SNES/Genesis era

Top NES emulator: NEStopia

Top Sega emulator: Gens+ (played both Sega CD and Genesis titles)

Top SNES emulator: ZNES

The Wii virtual console went through the libraries of these emulators like a blow-torch.

The emulator creators, glady agreeing to legal standards, locked and deleted most of the ROM mirror-sites now that Nintendo's re-claiming all the good licenses for the Wii and leaving all the crap games. Like I really care about Super Strike Eagle or Shaq-Fu. :dozey: (Grrrr) I really should be mad this happened, but most of these games originally belonged to Nintendo anyways. Especially the NES and SNES titles. I lost my Super Metroid ROM in a hard-drive failure not long ago too. :( Oh well, I guess the free ride is over. If I want the good classics now, I need to get a Wii. Meh. I got tired of trying to play Contra:Hard Corps on the keyboard anyways.

BTW BoroVC, if you can get Battletoads arcade (MAME) to work right now, I'd like to know which version your using.

I used ZNES, and I think its still on my older part of my HDD, Gens+ sounds familiar but I also used a different emulator than NEStopia. In fact I may go digging tomorrow for those old goodies

Here is a link to the MAME I use: http://rs107.rapidshare.com/files/70381437/mameppk_bin_vc-0.119.7z

Thats version 119 and I use 117, but I just tested and Battletoads works fine on there. It also has a Kaillera client so you can play online.

I have my Wii modded with the Homebrew Channel, so I enjoy my SNES and Mega Drive games using emulators for the Wii. If only there was a playable MAME available for the Wii.

ZSNES is lovely, and for the genisis...I used....uhh...Fusion. It's not the best, but it does the job...which is let me play a game without crashing.

I for some reason remember MAME32 being an asshole to me back in the day and not working right. I guess they got it working well!

Just checked one of the most popular ROM sites and it has Chrono Trigger and everything, and PS1 games. It has Battletoads & Double Dragon too.

I used to know some Kuvuchki rom site...can't remember what it was called for life, some Russian site. I'm glad I got my entire rom collection before now, though! *Wipes brow*
