Under Florida law, anyone who mutilates, defaces, tramples, or burns a U.S. or Florida flag with the goal of insulting it is guilty of a first-degree misdemeanor.

Donnie White, 44, just found that out the hard way.

"He rubbed that flag across his body. He stomped on it. He dragged it down the street." said prosecutors during White's first appearance in court Tuesday.

Johnson and about a dozen other paramedics - at a training center in the plaza - saw White ride up on his bicycle dragging a dirty flag.

One of them tried to grab it, but White hung on. Police broke it up, but then they say White stunned them all.

"When the police officer took him to the side, he sat down actually, put the flag in his pants, and sat down on the flag and then he was rubbing his privates with the flag. The police officer got very upset over that, you could tell," recalled Johnson.

White's now in jail on a $500 bond. He's charged with public mutilation of the flag.

oh my god the humanity, they should give him the death penalty ......land of the free my ass

"He was just being hurtful and hateful I believe and just wanted to offend other people," said paramedic Greg Phelps who was also there.

Police took the flag as evidence. If convicted, White faces a year in jail and a $1000 fine.

oh he was just so hurtful? it's a freaking piece of cloth ..Bush and his cronies can steamroll over your rights but god forbid someone should hump an american flag

I fully endorse and support humping american flags ..if there's hot naked supermodels holding the flags so much the better ...oh and all those at the scene who were outraged should be shot, repeatedly

Sometimes I'm glad I live in Britain. :|

A true patriot, clearly a man who truly..eh...loves his country.

Oh yeah says who ?

heh you editted ..you said something about "a graphics update is welcome" ..methinks you were trying to post that in the stalker thread ...but your new edit makes even less sense than your first post in this thread

lol

your news never fails to entertain Stern :p

I didn't think states could override the constitution

If you live in america you must love your country, just not in that way.

If not desecration of the flag, then public indecency. Take your pick.

Although one year in jail is excessive, most likely they won't hand the full punishment down.

****ing hell. As was mentioned its a peice of cloth. Its high time America dropped all the patriotic bullshit, because, quite frankly, its not immpresing anyone. Screw my country, I'm don't consider myself British (I don't get to choose what country I'm born in so whats the point), I'm a human. That guy wasn't American, he was human.

rubbing a flag on his balls is public indececy? obviously you've never been at a baseball game ..man a inning doesnt go by without one of the guys on field either scratching his balls or give it the ol' "lift and adjust" move all males do

I just love when people defend the rediculous ..I'm convinced I could make up some crazy situation and some people would defend it simply because it's in defense of america

"police shoot students at kindergarten because they only had 49 stars on their classroom flag"

uber-patriot: "the police were justified, just think of what these children would have been had they had a chance to grow up! terrorists that's who!!! ..liberal terrorists! with moonbat eyes and long greasy hippy like hair just waiting to gangrape Patriotic soccor moms driving SUVs with baby seal fur seats and little rodents embedded into the grooves of the tires"

To put it simply, he was being a troll, about as much of a troll as CptStern is being right now, so I'm done in this thread.

Trolling can't be ignored.

A man using a flag as a sex toy can be ignored.

Agreed.
Don't really see why people care so much about what happens in America if they don't live here.

:|

he deserved to be arrested for rubbing himself with cloth? why arent baseball players arrested? what's the difference? oh right he's holding a piece of cloth painted red what and blue ...doesnt freedom and liberty fit there somewhere?

oh btw I never ever want to hear another person comment on a single thing that doesnt originate from their own homes because "why would people care so much about what happens outside their homes if they don't live there?"

I wonder if I'm allowed to hump the american flag in show of support of this country? Only one way to find out...

Edit: This gives me another idea. The star spangled pocket pussy. Any buyers?

He was disrespecting the flag and yah, i've got a problem with that too. If the state law is against it, then move to another state. If it was obscene, than I have no problem with him being arrested at all. People have children and if I did, I certainly wouldn't want some nut doing that in front of them.

If you're so concerned about what happens in other nations, how bout you put a little more focus on something a little more serious? I think the genocides in Africa are a good place to start. That's a lot more serious than this incident, wouldn't you agree?

It's clear you hate America. That's your opinion and your choice. But I really don't care what you think. The opinion of an old man, spending way too much time on forums (judging by his post count) and who's too afraid to post his picture (for whatever reason, we can only guess) will hardly ever matter to me.

Stern has posted his sexy visage numerous times, not his fault if you were never around.

People identify themselves waaaay too much with a flag or a country, can't you be your own person instead of a member of this country or that, this organization or that. Try to be an individual for once!

Yes, the children, WILL SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Yes, this is way more harmful to their health than not having health insurance. I'm glad our priorities are all in the right place.

He was disrespecting the flag - so what? We're allowed to disrespect corporate icons, and other people, scientific theories, specific groups of people, Communism, other COUNTRIES, yet you're not allowed to disrespect your own. Freedom of speech, my ass. I suppose you'd also have a problem with people disrespecting the President? Besides which, saying something is wrong because it's illegal is pretty shortsighted. Think of all the stupid laws that you don't agree with, be they local or federal. Should Californian women really be sent to jail because they drove while wearing a housecoat?

There's nothing we, as individuals, can really do about African genocide. That's something the leaders of our countries should be taking care of. If they haven't fixed it (due either to lack of options or laziness) then we, right now, have no chance. So in the meantime we can turn our attention to issues that affect other people, something we might actually be able to instigate change in.

First off, good job trying to discredit someone through baseless right-wing alarmist means. Second, isn't it in an American's best interest to listen to what other people have to say about his country? America can't possibly be doing the right thing 100% of the time, and maybe some of its citizens can't see how certain things are wrong, immoral, ridiculous, etc., so maybe Americans should listen to outsiders once in a while? You guys hate North Korea, but with enough time spent calling your citizens anti-American and ignoring everything non-Americans have to say, you'll be just like them :)

Supposedly you can't do a number of things with the flag, such as wear it as clothing. They say you shouldn't use it in a demeaning way. Instead you should protect the flag. That's why in battle when marching they held the flag up high. And if the guy got shot who was holding it, others rushed in to keep it up so it didn't touch the ground.

"aghhh my eyes! the goggles do nothing"

I don't care if people bash on Bush or the USA in general, but saying that the public desecration of the US flag should be a freedom, or that it's just a piece of cloth is an insult to the history of this country. It's not just some piece of fabric. It's representative of the people who died to create this country. There's a reason why the colors are red, white, and blue. To say that the fathers of this country don't mean a thing is treasonous. You don't deserve to be an American if you can't even respect your own flag.

You don't deserve to be an american if you believe people shouldn't have the right to freely express themselves. That's an insult to the people that died for this country, not rubbing some cloth on your nuts. Do you honestly believe those people died for protecting a flag and not our freedoms?

I have the right to believe that people who burn the flag are douchebags, I don't have the right to take that freedom away from them because I don't like it.

What if you believe that a lot of the things that America is doing are wrong?

respect for the flag is different than disagreeing with national policy

Where in my post did I say that people shouldn't have the right to express themselves? There's a reason why we drape the flag over the caskets of our fallen soldiers. What the flag represents is what they died for. Even if it is bad national policy that sent them to their death, it's still freedom that they died for. In this day and age, it would be the freedom of the Iraqi people that they died for. Freedom, which is one thing that the US flag represents.

Do you not think it is a shame and an insult to those soldiers to have that flag rubbed all over some idiot's nuts? I'm not saying that you shouldn't have the right to express your thoughts and opinions, but you shouldn't do it by destroying a flag.

Right where you said we shouldnt be able to desecrate the flag.

Flag desecration is a sign pf civil disobedience, which is one of the very few (and ever decreasing) ways we can affect our government. When the government fails to meet the needs of its people, civil disobedience is an obligation. (I forget who originally said this, otherwise I would just quote him).

Anyways, thank god I live in Florida!

wait.... SHIT!

Flag desecration is not civil disobedience. It's outright treason. Martin Luther King never burned a flag, and yet he still used civil disobedience to make a change in our country. It was Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin, i think, that said that civil disobedience was an obligation.

King was arrested for civil disobedience many times because the government wasn't meeting the needs of the the people, particularly the black people.
