i'm not so sure we should be making jokes about someone who died. i agree it's his fault and i almost thinks he deserved it. but making jokes kind of makes me feel a bit weird..

who knows why people do the things they do, what he went through to get where he was, or why he did what he did. we'll never know now.

you do not 'know'. for all we know he could have been stealing money to buy insulin. i'm sure he wasn't, but the point is he wouldn't be stealing if he was rich, many people are victims of circumstance.
 
If he needed money so bad he could have pawned the gun.

Since this is America I wouldn't be surprised if the surviving familey members of the would be robber sue the homeowners for having a messy home which led to his tripping and ultimatly his death and WIN.

Except for the guy who broke into someones house after they went on vacation, and locked himself in their garage, and couldn't get out, and when they got home, they let him out, he sued, and won ~$50,000...or some monies like that.

Then the guy who broke into someones house in the middle of the night, got attacked by their dog, and sued and won that one...

It's not as unlikely as you think.
