Man lifts car off trapped cyclist said:
PHOENIX, Arizona (Reuters) - A hefty bystander at a road accident in southern Arizona heaved a car clean off a trapped teenage cyclist, possibly saving his life, police said on Friday.

Eighteen-year-old Kyle Holtrust was struck by a car as he pedaled along a Tucson highway late on Wednesday and pinned beneath it, city police said.

Tucson paintshop worker Tom Boyle grabbed the Chevrolet Camaro car and lifted it, allowing the driver to haul the injured cyclist clear.

"He lifted that side of the car completely off the ground," police spokesman Frank Amado told Reuters by telephone.

Amado said Holtrust was being treated in hospital, and was expected to make a full recovery.

Local media said Boyle is 6 feet four inches tall and weighs 300 pounds (136 kg).

"It was outstanding," Amado said. "It is quite unusual to have that strength."

That's crazy, I'd love to be able to lift a car, even though he didn't life the whole thing, he lifted the side, but still...

Although..
Maybe the car was on a certain angle or something? Bah, even so!

Damn. What kind of car was it?

It says right there, Chevrolet Camaro. 3rd sentence... :)

Its actually not that suprising. Humans ahve incredible strength, it's just that they can't unlock it in normal situations. It's like a report I once heard of a woman who lifted a van (not above he head, but still it WAS van :P) because her child was under it.
Adrenaline can make you do some crazy shit

Pff I could lift a car if I wanted to, I just don't want to.

Yeah, I heard about this factory worker guy. A big chunk of metal or something fell on his friend and trapped him underneath, he picked it right up to let the other guy out from underneath it.

That's like saying Ennui and Ennui put together could lock this thread. It's obvious.

OnTopic, how do those guys drag cars with their penis' and their ears?

Wouldn't it like, rip?

I can pull a van full of teenagers pretty easy. It's got wheels you know. But that's different.

Your muscles have connecting fibres which are used in extreme levels of adrenaline and other "fight or flight" drugs if you need to do something extreme enough.

You'll notice "depending on your mood" your strength changes....it's all down to level of these chemicals and neural stimulation.

You'll notice weight lifters/athletes sometimes getting really psyched up before their exercise, they are unlocking the ability to use this animal strength.

I can do it quite well and hence lift nearlly twice my own body weight.

Think of the psychological difference "i'm going to lift this dumbell to make me stronger.....i can't really be bothered but i'll do it anyway" compared to "holy shit my kid is trapped under this object"

Btw, the fibres take ages to repair and overuse can severely damage the muscle.

That is amazing. He could be payed big bucks at a automotive shop to be a human jack!

because obviously hiring and paying a person to lift cars makes sense when you can just use a bit of metal to do it

I ate a car once. Bob Saget was inside, it's a long story.

6' 4" 300lbs is a damn big bloke btw

Arnies off season weight (when he has fat) was 260lb

I'm 6'5" and i'm only 210lbs :S He must be pretty muscular... they say the body is only running at 30% capacity, and in life or death situations the other 70% gets unlocked ... but still, I doubt I could lift a car! :S

Pfff, that's nothing. I lifted my penis once!

With nothing but your penis, I'll bet!

Nah man, I gave up on the idea of erections the 27th time I went into a coma because of lack of blood in my head.

They're the same person though. SR is a singularity, you can't have more than one.

not hard, if you can lift 160kg weight in gym using dead lift mod and for a period of 3 months. you will be able to lift the side of a car/.

Anybody else see the title as "Man Lifts Carl" and expect it to be a story about how some large man, possibly a pirate, fireman-carried the thread creator's best mate and ran off into the night with him?

yes, i did that the first time i saw the thread, i was like "who the hell is carl?!"

At the height of my weight training in high school I could leg press 800lbs, so it doesn't surprise me a large muscular guy more than twice my size can lift the side of a 'Maro. That would equate to about 1600-1700lbs.

Ummmm...there's a huge difference between leg pressing and lifting.

Not really. Get a low stance, grapple/brace side of car with arms, lift with legs. Done.
Where do you think his power came from? He didn't lift the side of a 3400lb car with his biceps.

Same, I just don't find this very surprising.

Meh.

I thought the thread creator meant "guy gets underneat a camaro, puts his arms under it, then runs around with it over his head".

Not "meh, some dude pushed the side of a car into the air".
