Manipulator vs. Gravity Gun

You know, veterans of this community have always called the gravity gun "the manipulator" from when it was first announced, whenever I hear "manipulator" I think of the gravity gun, and whenever someone shows the the gravity gun, I say "manipulator" yet, when I played hl2, I noticed it was always called "the gravity gun" or the "zero point energy gun" but never the "manipulator". So, in that case, where did the term "manipulator" come from? And does everyone, like me, still call it the manipulator instead of the gravity gun?

The term "Manipulator Gun" is the name for the e3 gravity gun.

I belive that it was actually called the "physcannon". I was talking about the varying terms used for the gravity gun in hl2 (the orange one)

Physgun, physcannon's yet another name for the gravity gun.
Some people call it the manipulator(I know I do) and some call it the gravity gun; doesn't really matter which one of the two names you use, people'll understand you.

The full name is the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator.

The weapon in its first guise is the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator Which emits an orange beam and can manipulate Inorganic material. Also known as the Physics cannon or gravity gun.

Later it becomes the Zero Point Energy Gravity Gun and emits a blue beam and can manipulate Organic material. The Gravity Gun can pick up heavier objects.

This is according to the Prima Strategy Guide anyway.

Ive always known them as manipulator since Valve called it that back at E3. Though only one was meant to be in the game (the orange emitting manipulator).
