map_prop_static: CH 53 Helicopter

This will be a map prop_static, (not playable!) for our mod: www.off-limits.be
there will be 2 versions:
* 1 landed (this one)
* 1 crashed (still to make)

Looks nice. Any chance it was modeled after an actual Helicopter? If it is, it would be cool to see what you used as a reference.

umm i dont see the point off watermarking .....a uvwmap :S
or even a fully textured map infact..coz ur going to be releasing ur mod to everyone ...and they will all be able to acess the textures anyway (altho i can undertand it)
but why did u do it to the uvw ? doesnt make sense :S
anyways nice unwrapping so far.
 
well,
it was ment to show it as a preview, otherwise people might say (hey thats a small UV map or they might say "493*493 is not correct .. it needs to be 512*512"
that was my main reason, but it might be a bit stupid yea .. but i've heard all kinds of stupid reply's in the past like that, so i thought i'd just place the word "PREVIEW" of the map on it :p

i like the way its going looks like ur gonna have another ace texture...i dont like hte logo tho ....but its wip...looking nice..
 
That looks so sexy. Its a shame it'll only be for show... but it does show off very well.

they are pretty simular made, the tail also bends of a sea king, and the top propellers can also be rotated to the back for idle/parking mode. Just like this Stalion, and the way they are build is also the same way.. don't know the english word for it, but in Dutch it's called "Klinknagels" :)
anyways, the main construction of both helikopters is the same basic way, so yea, it does look like a sea king ;)
 
why do i have a feeling that the whole skin is complete and ur only showing us pieces :cool:

i skinned that part yesterday, thats really all i did so far (didn't do anything today.. will work some more on them tomorrow)

well, i just did a google when looking for references, i used one blueprint for the main, but when i started adding detailed i looked at a numbre of pictures, and this was also one of them, my main reference is think the "CH-53" but i must say they both look very much alike... i'm not sure anymore ..., looks like i could have used the wrong title for my chopper :p

As you can see they are both very simular.
could you tell me what the main differences are? if you know by any change, i'd like to know!

testuring is looks very nice i like the way u are toning down on the shading ...nice work will u be doing bump and specular later ?
and did u start off with the blueprint as a base for the pannels ive been searching for a good method for starting the pattern of pannels ..
btw just for ur knowledge its similar not simular.

Simon, you're modelling a Mh53 Sea Dragon, used for Anti-Mine warfare, amongst other things, not a Ch53 Super Stallion which is a heavy transport helicopter.

The biggest difference between the 2 models is the little sonar bulge/Magnetic Anomaly Detector thing on the front of the helicopter, left handside of the cockpit.
 
thanks a lot Razor, glad to finally know what one it is, but i think my helicopter is not correct if i see correctly know, i took 2 version and made them into one
this here was my biggist inspiration:

(as you can see, it does not have the front radar system)
and then this one has the radar system, BUT the rear tail is not under an angle (like my model)

so, i guess i mixed to choppers up, and made them into one ... :/
or is there a version that does excist like the one i'm modeling ? i'm not sure anymore :p
 
Ok, just realised what you've done, it is a Ch53 that you have modelled, but you have, like you said, taken 2 different helicopters as references.

One has the dome on the front with a straight tail plane, the other doesn't have a dome with a angled tail plane. So, you either change the tail plane to one that is straight (right angled) or remove the dome.

The main difference between a ch53 and an mh53 is the little stand at the back of the tail rotor that sticks down, the thing that stops the tail rotor hitting the ground. The Mh53 has a retractable one, the Ch53 has a fixed one, like you have you.

well, thanks for explaining it all to me, but i've already started the texturing (and i'm not planning on re-doing the UV mapping for these errors) lets call it a custom made 53 then :p
i should have put omre research into it, but i didn't know there were so many versions of it, they all looked so alike .. :/
 
actually thats not what i meant what i meant was that when u started drawing out the pannel design on the texture...did u use the blueprint as a base ...
in any case tho ur blue print doesnt have the pannel details some blueprints do ...
i think the text needs a lot of work ...but its wip nice so far
 
i use photo's as the base of the texture and edit them, that's the way i texture
 
nothing has changed on the textures, because i have been busy doing other more important stuff for the mod, but we did do a quick compile of it, thought i'd share it with you all :p

Looking kick arse dude, nice job! mayb add alot more dirt/grit to the texture if you know what i mean, but really nice job.
 
stormy: it's a WiP texture (hense the big fat letters W.I.P. on the side)
red: as long as the gun points the correct direction it's fine :)
(but anyway, our weapons will soon be in-game aswell, and our 1st map is progrogressing real nice aswell, so we will post an in-game shot of the MOD pretty soon

about the helicopter, it wont be long before i can start working on it again, things have been really hectic with the mod lately (in a good way) so expect updates soon :p
