Well, I'll just get straight to the point....

A Half-life 2 mapper here, looking for work. Here is my "profile".

Preffered Name: ChaosRyder
Experience: 3+ Years of mapping
Gender: Male
Preffered Mod: A medieval or scifi modification
Requirements: A few custom textures to get me started.

You should really post finished or even just compiled maps.
Other than that not bad, but your texturing needs a lot of work.

The reason I didnt post ingame shots is because of the enormous wait time for compiling the maps.

Yeah good luck with that. I've mapped for years, yet never felt like releasing anything.

That areas quite yellow.

This is not a good sign. No map should take over an hour to compile.
 
id make maps for mods that have fgd and practice...instead of joining a mod. I like that you have skill to map but you dont have the skill to map for a mod team. Practice makes perfect sense to me. So for example get the TS= the specialists fgd and go crazy.

Not trying to dis ya but inspire ya. Mod till you die!

hmm, you look like a decent mapper but you definitely need to work on textures and lighting - also, you map like it's Half-Life, not Source.
 
Hints and well built architecture, illusionaries and details - sure an hour was an exaggeration, but judging by those screenshots he should not be having any compile times whatsoever.
 
I agree, but still, all those things you mentioned affect VIS time, not rad time (unless you're cutting the shadows on detail brushes). But yeah, if that's the whole map in the screen it should take like 2 mins to compile,, maybe a few overlapping brushes?

I dont overlap brushes... that is a sloppy way to map and shows that the mapper is not very experienced.

Now, those pictures were not one map, there was about 6 different maps. And most of them take under 20 minutes... But add of the time of compiling each map and then testing them. It adds up! You may say im lazy, but I just have better things to do... I love the feedback though!:-D

To all the unbeleivers who may be looking for a mapper: If you do not believe in my abilities to map, please, test me. Give me some concept or a well explained idea for a map and I'll make it... Just dont test me if you aren't going to hire.

Also, thanks for all the feedback you guys...

I want a map with caves and water. Imagine the first team spawning in water going into the map and its a island with a mountain in the way and bushes and plant life and the way in is into a cave that has light coming into the cave at some parts. in the center of the cave the sun beams down and you can see little water falls pushing the water in the center of the cave that formed a small river. Add another way into the cave from the other side since this map is a two team map.

Ill supply a shark and a frog and parrot for the map.
 
Your maps need a lot of work my friend. I would read some general level design tutorials.

BWAH! That's displacements hell right there, if he tries that I hope he's got his finger on the undo key because that'd be a bitch to sew and whatnot.

Yeah I don't want to beat around the bush, especially on this ancient thread; the maps in question are seriously lacking.
 
I think the brush work on them is pretty good. Just, the guy really needs to spend more time on texturing.

im sorry... but for three years of mapping it looks crap. its HL1. no, not even. and if you dont even take the time to compile youre maps, why show them....
