Mapping for Portal

I seriously doubt it, but has there been any information about Portal mapping? I have seen in a few of the videos (especially the German preview) that there looks to be some brush entities that will be important, as well as the brush/point entities for controling the combine balls and getting them to operate stuff.
 
I don't see why they wouldn't let you map for Portal, If i remember right, there was custom maps for narbacular drop as well.

you can map for any source game, you just gotto add the files into the configurationz.
 
I wasn't asking specifically if they were going to allow mapping, I was wondering if they have said anything about new features and/or the date on an SDK update. I want to get as much of a lead on mapping as possible because I have some whack-ass ideas for maps, plus the mapping site I just opened up.
 
I think its gonna be pretty straightforward actually. A few new entities for the portals, and maybe for finnishing a few objectives, but not much else.

I believe the Portal FGD is available somewhere in the TF2 content (they have the same FGD or something).
 
It used to be but i think it has been removed.

However, it resides on many mappers hard drives.

And.... maybe.... that is the reason why some mappers say that there aint gonna be much new stuff. Mainly a few entities for portals and some for objectives, but thats it.
 
Yeah I didn't expect them to like totally re-do entity setups or something. I did not grab the FGD file before it disappeared, sadly.

Is there any info on materials that you cannot shoot a portal onto? I imagine it will be like a "$noportal" flag in the VMT.

Fair enough, I can't blame you. tl;dr

Portal preload just started, going to hopefuly try and GCFscape the textures out so I can start maybe making maps.

Apparently it is going to be released at the same time as the orange box, but we all know how Valve are with keeping to deadlines.
 
I've heard that the SDK update won't come for a month or two until after the game release. We should be able to map for Portal before then though, using the TF2 method by extracting the GCF and going from there.

There's an entity which disallows all portals inside it. But maybe materials are affected too.
