Mario Galaxy 2 hype thread (with Edge review)

I now have 92 stars in SMG. Must get the last eight before this comes out.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GOOD GAMES COMING OUT?! GODDAMN IT.

This'll be one of my must-buys this year but considering upcoming expenses, I may buy it a few months down the line.

Somebody seriously needs to play it while on acid/ smoking pot.

I never even finished the first one.

I never even played the first one yet. It's still sitting out there for the Wii... begging.

:(

I have the first one for Wii but I've only played it like once. Just never got motivated for some reason.

I didn't like how linear the first one was. I like the openness and exploration of 64 and Sunshine.

Man, I know I'll end up buying this one, but I really hope it reaches its potential. There are so many gameplay elements of the first that have incredible room to expand upon and combine (Matter Splatter, Space Junk, all the mindbending planetary platforming greatness IE: 3rd bowser), but they show off all these random power ups, 2D stages (don't get me wrong, the 2D stages can be great too IE: 2nd bowser), ball roller stages, and those standard mario 64 type stages and I just hope that's more advertising than really a fair representation. Anyway, I'll still probably play it and love it, but here's hoping it can achieve the maximum possible gameplay greatness.

For me, Spring Mario was the only thing in the first game that stopped it being perfect. Let's hope that's gone this time, and they don't introduce an equally awkward suit in its place.

I have almost all the stars and I can only remember using spring mario once so far. I actually found it quite fun too. My main complaint is the comets started off interesting at the start but then almost all became collect the purple coins later on (though some of those are still good). Seems like they ran out of ideas.

Spring Mario threw all precision out of the window and was frustrating beyond belief. The most essential part of the Mario experience is the tightness of the controls, which was totally lost with Spring Mario. Luckily it was only a very small portion of the game, and considering how large the game is, to have only one part I didn't enjoy is truly impressive.

I quite liked spring mario - it wasn't that hard to jump with some precision.

Spring Mario required the utmost precision and timing, there was nothing random about it. It was a bitch to get the hang of him at first though, I lost at least fifteen lives before I could control him tightly.

so this one has yoshi, and luigi

I don't play Wii games, nor know anything about Wii games.

So are you going to troll Nintendo or are you just here to akwardly comment on readily apparent things?

...

I thought spring Mario was pretty good, one of the few that didn't bother me really. Purple coin is just the 100 coin SM64 equivalent, a pain in the ass to accomplish but feels really good when you do. The toy level purple coins were phenomenal. I hope there's a lot more comets and they have a lot more variety. It seems like a really simple and effective way to add fun to the game.

No, I like Nintendo, but I can't afford a Wii.

Also, Warbie is a douchebag.

//ignore! And the reviews come flooding in

I'm so jealous of you guys in the states - we have to wait untill June 11 in the UK!

lol - my excitement got the better of me :)

That's my birthday :D

I finally got to the Toy Galaxy and yeah I died a few times with the spring but it was still fun.

F yeah, this is gonna be so much fun.
I'm starting to miss my Wii(which I sold ages ago), so I ordered a Wiimote+Nunchuck+Bluetooth adapter to enjoy this game(along with some other games) in 1080p on the Dolphin emulator

(No, not pirating the game, I'm also buying it because I think it's worth my money, admins)

Is that working well these days? I know people used to have had all sorts of problems with speed issues, no sounds, graphical glitches etc.

Yeah I think it's not going to work flawlessly, but I will find out soon enough. I didn't order them exclusively for Mario Galaxy 2, but also for other games like Zelda TP and Wii Sports which work flawlessly on good-specced PC's. And of course all the other cool stuff :)

With the proper config and hardware Mario Galaxy 1 is well playable, so I guess 2 is too.

Nice - i'd like to play various GC and Wii games on a big screen, but they look poo when blown up large. I'll wait though - when the Dolphin can play everything flawlessly it will be time to revisit.

Is 240 stars counting double for Luigi? I think my heart skipped a beat.

Not sure whether that's awesome or lazy. Possibly both.

Oh god that is awesome. Trying to go through SMG right now in anticipation for this. Seeing that video is amazing though, Mario 64 was a big part of my childhood.

Rargh hype overload ...

'2007 Super Mario Galaxy was brilliant, but 2010's Super Mario Galaxy 2 is absolutely amazing.'

gotd!!1
