Hello I bought a copy of Mario Kart DS. Looks way better than Mario Kart 64, but the gameplay feels too slow. I have played with the fastest cars and the game still feels like you are playing in slow motion.

The game lacks excitement.

it's a shame that this tiny little detail makes the game so boring. I guess I'll just keep playing Mario Kart 64.

Are you playing on 150cc or just 50cc? You have to unlock the 150cc and 1500cc mirror by playing the slower, easier difficulties.

I played 50cc, 100cc and 150cc. The gameplay feels slow in all of them. How do I unlock the 1500cc option?

It does feel a little slower than MK64, but is still a much better game imo. I'd choose both the snes and gba Mario Karts and Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 over MK64. Infact, if it wasn't for the terrible Double Dash, i'd say MK64 was the worst in the series.

I personally love MK DS because it takes the handling from the snes version (something that got screwed up in MK64 and DD) and adds the boosting. It's also nice being able to unlock loads of different vehicles and the amount of courses is very impressive.

Sorry, typo. I meant 150cc mirror. I think you need to beat all the cups in 150cc to unluck it or something like that.

If Double Dash was the one for the Gamecube...

I like that one. :(

I heard Double Dash was the black sheep of the Mario Kart series. I'd still like to play it though.

I relaly enjoyed Double Dash. Almost as much as 64. But DS is way out in front with the SNES version marginally behind it. Super Circuit can rot in hell for all I care. Pile of wank.

Some good tracks though.

I'm suprised you don't like Super Circuit - it's basically a sequel to the snes MK and plays almost identically. My least favourite are easily the N64 and GC versions.

Wait till you play online if you haven't. The game definitely seems a lot faster and much more aggressive when you play with good players online, not even talking about snaking either, that's a whole 'nother level.

There was just something wholly inaccurate about the handling. Mind you, I never successfully played a racing game on a handhled before this generation. They always seemed too clunky. Maybe if it's released for the VC I'll retry it.

hey guys now that we are talking about Mario Kart DS, can someone tell me what accessories/software/monthly subscriptions are necessary to play online?

No software or subscription - just broadband and wifi. If you don't have a wireless router you can get a cheap dongle that plugs into your usb port that will do the trick.

hey Warbie, just wanted to let you know I just finished Mario Kart DS.

I completed the 8 cups in all the 4 categories: 50cc, 100cc, 150cc and 150cc mirror.

Now what do I do with this game? Does Gamestop accept returns?

Yeah, MKDS's single-player wares out pretty fast...Multiplayer is where it's at :D
