Does anyone know what the story is with these people? I know they represent satan and are against the church and stuff, but what is it exactly they do? I know they drive around in midget cars and wear fezes, but what is so significant about this orginization?

I have NO idea wtf you are talking about but the little cars and fezes are shriners.....

Are you sure you don't mean the Mansons? As in Charles Manson?

Jesus, my grandad never wore a fez, nor did he drive around in a small car........?

you're mixing up the shriners (guys in little cars) and the Masons (think men's club)

do you guys even know what google is? My nanny's father was a pretty well known mason. They are a cult like group formed way back when of a bunch of mason laborers.

Oh a MASON. <Slaps forehead> Like Jeremy Beadle and Jim Davidson.

"Criticisms of Masonic 'Cronyism'
Another criticism that may or may not have to do with the specific nature of Freemasonry, but may be applied generally to any type of organization or secret society, is the practice of cronyism, or giving favors to fellow members. Anecdotely many have the impression that one increases chances for employment by joining the Masons. This type of cronyism can be seen in the movie "Gypsie", where possibly not talking about the Freemasons, but referencing fraternities like the Moose Lodge, the general idea is alluded to. Unscrupulous Masons have been known to claim they can get out of driving tickets because of Masonic logos on their car. Again, this criticism can be easily applied to almost any fraternity, but the Masons are a big target because they are not simply based in colleges, because they are the largest fraternity, and because they are worldwide."

-wikipedia entry

basically sums up some of the more commonly known things about freemasons. people think they get favors from other masons in society such as breaks from legalities such as traffic violations and speeding.

Did you really have a mental image of Charles Manson driving around in a little car whilst wearing a fez?

but shriners and satanists are completely unrelated to freemasons :|

you obviously knew absolutely nothing about masons (thread starter)

also they have NOTHING to do with satan and have NOTHING to do with shriners. Damnit.
Freemasonry is a worldwide fraternal organization. Its members are joined together by shared ideals of both a moral and metaphysical nature, and, in most of its branches, by a common belief in a Supreme Being. Freemasonry is an esoteric art, in that certain aspects of its internal work are not generally revealed to the public. Masons give numerous reasons for this, one of which is that Freemasonry uses an initiatory system of degrees to explore ethical and philosophical issues, and this system is less effective if the observer knows beforehand what will happen. It often calls itself "a peculiar system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols." They often drive in midget cars and wear fezes.
See..they do wear fezes!

free masons, they've been around for like ever, illuminati style

It's more of a secret brotherhood. Conspiracy theorists say they rule the world.

Some... I've come up with stranger things. Oh yes.

My Grandma's Dad was in the Freemasons. We even have a masionic bible in the family.

There's a couple of freemasons lodges around here ... flash cars outside during meetings, hush hush, secret handshakes etc.

Ignorance is bliss. If I can't be a part of their secret society, then they can't be a part of mine.

My dad works with quite a few Freemasons, and my grandfather was a member of the Knights of Columbus. I think my Great Uncle was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians as well. Very fancy name for a group of old men that sit around smoking cigars every Wednesday after they get back from bowling.

Where I live weve got a Masonic Temple between a Catholic and protestant church. I always found that amusing.

Is this thread inspired by National Treasure by any chance?

Yeah, if you don't understand freemasons, just think of the Stonecutter's society in that Simpson's episode.

What the hell are you talking about? You buying into rumor crap?

There is nothing sinister about masons.
There are no blood scarifies, no take over the world plots, no secret religion.
The masons in the UK are a group of men who meet every other Tuesday at their perspective lodges and socialize.
To become a mason you have to be recommended and seconded by a mason. You will then do three trials, called the first, second and third degree. After this you will be accepted as a mason and be allegeable to get your Masonic mark.
By the way keep this to yourselves; it’s supposed to be secret.

My grandpa is a member of the Knights of Columbus. Good guys, the ones I know all seem to like me. When I'm an older person I'll get more involved with it.

Just google it

In general, they wouldn't be anti-christian, but it is believed that members of the illuminati have infiltrated the masons ranks, effectively maipulating people for their own personal gain.

illuminati where branded shaitan (which is a reference to satan) which is an acient catholic meaning for anti-christian or against god.

they're just a cover for the illuminati. According to The Man who Would be King, Alexander the Great was a Freemason and that was thousands of years ago.

Someone asked my dad if he wanted to be a mason, and gave him the details.

He declined when he found out there was a monthly fee... :|

Shaitan? Is that how Sean Connery would pronounce Satan?

I live about 15 miles from a Masonic Temple. We rent it out for lan parties. :cheese: We enjoy turning on the funny red lights, beating the gavels on the marble pads, and laying on the freaky table in the center of the room like some kind of sacrifice....its kind of freaky.

The reason people believe the freemasons are satanic is because in the 18th and 19th century they were corrupted by the Bavarian Illuminati.

They do, however, have some believes which contradict Christian Doctorine.

The Masons must be a really shitty secret society, considering everyone knows who they are.

Heh, that reminds me of the simpson's episode.

"You guys wanna come bowling tonight?"
"Nope, we are busy...got things to do"
"Like what?"
