Just spotted this on www.gamerankings.com while looking for something else.

Game Informer - 97.5% (!!)

Some other things I dug up:

News confirmation with a few quotes from the review - http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/10/16/game-informer-gives-mass-effect-9-75/

Forum post quoting it in more detail (possibly questionable source, but seems legit) - Part 1 and Part 2.

So, positive first impression seems to be a bit of an understatement. Hype-o-meter just peaked! :)

Little dissapointing to hear the combat isn't all that, but honestly it looked a little clunky in videos, and Bioware haven't exactly been known for their superior balance and enemy AI in the past.

Hopefully this is something EA will take to heart and allow Bioware to make their games without interference.

I hope the story's actually good.

whats mass effect?

Idd.

Never heard of it, but it seems to be hyped alot, so i'll be picking it up for my 360. Not going to read up on it, therefore i won't be disappointed if its turd.

Here's hoping ;)

Don't get me wrong, Bioware's good, but I think there are developers capable of plots that are far more involving and thoughtful. It's like how Bioware did a great job with KOTOR, but Obsidian took it to an entirely different level.

So I'm eyeing the "best story" comment with a little bit of suspicion.

Agreed, the character archtypes of biowares games crossover a lot.

That said Baldurs gate was awesome

Excellent. This was always on my must have list, I didn't picture it getting bad reviews anyway.

This'll keep me busy (hopefully).

My only worry is that for me, from when I get in, to when I go to bed, the 360 is on with my housemates playing FIFA

I never get to play anymore.

Well if the 360 is yours? Tell them to gtf-off it ..

God damn, what a year for games

Damn right. For the first time in a long time I can't buy all the games I want as there are simply too many. Titles that would be absolute no brainers are going on the rainy day list - which is awesome :)

the review was extremely short and had little in the way of detail but good to hear that it's shaping up nicely ..the combat has me a little worried ..impressive cutscenes and nice dialogue only goes so far but will definately pick this one up

I am sure this is a day-1 buy for me, along with Galaxy and AC. The review certainly seems overly stellar and forgiving in terms of the combat and balancing and such, but some of the combat in other Bioware titles hasn't been that perfect either. That said Baldur's Gate I & II are two of my Top 10 games of all-time so I have A TON of love for these guys. Also, by the time Dragon Age comes out, I should have a pC that will actually run the heck out of it!! Woo-hoo!!

The combat will be fine - i'm more concerned about my social life. Just don't expect combat as fluid or in your face as something like GoW.

Oh yes. I'm slowly saving pennies for that too.

Indeed. I am taking that whole week off for Thanksgiving (:)) so it better not be delayed!! I don't plan on leaving the house except for dinner at the relatives!!

imho I think combat in GoW is overly simplistic ...I dont expect GoW style combat but I would appreciate a little freedom to take on foes as you please ..and clumsy combat controls can ruin an otherwise steller game

Dragon Age wont be released for quite some time ..I think 2009?

Exactly. Plenty of time to sock away cold raw cash. Quad cores should be pretty dern cheap by then!

And yes, I hope there is freedom within the combat and it does look like there is, though I have no interest whatsoever in micromanaging my combat colleagues. Final Fantasy 12's Gambit system was perfect: set 'em up, let 'em go. Awesome. I frankly just want to explore the tons of alien galaxies and planets. Hopefully the game's worlds are wonderfully full of variety....

by then it'll be octo-cores, quad cores being so 2008 ..we'll have physics simulations up the wazoo with uber resolutions on giant megatron screens that without obstruction can be seen from the surface of the moon. It'll be a glorious era for pc gaming, and the console boys go doo do doo do doo do do doo

Yeah, I'm in this boat too. The trailer didn't do much to sway me. But good review.

Soooooo you will be doing that with all of us, right? As I recall, you were recently squirted out of the great console-whore's womb, right? Sure, it takes a while to get used to the smell, but boy does it pay off in spades (and loads of free pants-cream from your fellow fanboys every time the word "exclusivity" is formed).

I really hope they port Mass Effect to the PC like did with KOTOR and Jade Empire. It's pretty much the only X360 title I want to play.

It has to arrive on the pc at some point.

yes I've been brought over to the dark side ..mostly for Mass effect ..still the pc fanboy in me is screaming in indignation

I doubt it will beat Bioshock's story, that was just...pure genious in work.

But meh, i dunno, some of the ideas sound cool but from the videos ive seen its a bit..hyped..

Heh. The 360 is basically a streamlined gaming PC anyway and a pretty cheap one at that, so your PC fanboy may want to examine its genealogy and may be surprised at what he discovers! :E

And yes, it will almost definitely come out for PC in a little while. Microsoft will want to maximize their profits on this one for sure and since they own both platforms it is a total no-brainer. Just look at Gears of War for instance....

...but the games, they feel so consolish :O

ya it'll make it's way to pc eventually ..my pc will still be my mainstain gaming machine ..I'll probably play mostly co-op with my gamer friend and exclusives butif given a choice I'll most likely stick with the pc version of games
