hey the Matrix Online NDA has been lifted! that means all of you who've played the beta can now freely discuss it ..what's it like? how does it compare to other MORPG's, how does the matrix setting suit the game? is it true to the spirit of the matrix? or is it just any old morg that just happens to look like the matrix

btw the game will be released on March 14

The general consensus, as far as I can tell from what I've gathered thus far, is this:

it's shit.

However, my survey only holds one person's opinion, so it's accuracy is debatable. ;)

I personally haven't played it, I've just talked to someone who claims to have played it. We didn't really go into any depth, because frankly I wasn't that interested at all. :p

doh! need info! dont have time to get into the beta myself

Have you checked any fan site forums? They're pretty good places to go for this sort of thing. ;)

I've been playing for the past week and I must say, I'm pretty damn impressed, Star Wars: Galaxies couldn;t hold my attention at all, but I just keep coming back to MXO, maybe it's the fact that I can jump up a building, or do kung fu, or just shoot people, I dunno, but it';s all very enjoyable, so far the missions have had a fair amount of variety and there's at least a couple different contacts I've met, and besides, they're letting the stress-testers into the regular beta, so I'm pleased as hell, it's a fun game and one i'd consider paying for every month, which really says something cause normally I hate MMOs, also, wearing a trenchcoat while jumping from one 10 story building across a road to another 10 story building is just damn cool.... wow, i sound like a damn fanboy

there are no gaming forums outside of hl2.net ;)

btw thx icarusintel, you've piqued my interest

i played the beta and really " it's shit. " as KagePrototype said

come on guys ...you can do better than that ...why is it shit? what makes it so bad? many of us have considered getting this game ...we'd like to know if it's worth it

I have a friend who's in the beta and literally plays it non-stop. I think he even skips some classes to play this thing.

He loves it, says the combat system is amazing, the presentation of the game is great ("Especially the loading screen, it loads the basic stuff, and everything it doesn't load right away is covered with the falling-numbers Matrix animation, it's really cool"), and the atmosphere itself is very well done. And he's got experience with MMO's. He played SWG for a year (trying desperately to find any quality in it), played that ROSE Online for a few months, Lineage, Anarchy Online, and one other MMO that I can't recall.

So basically, he knows what he's talking about, and he says that MxO is probably the best one so far.

I can't play it becouse it wont run on win98 SE and I'm too stubborn to actualy upgrade to XP. ;(

I didn't care for MxO when I played it earlier last year. Granted that I probably shouldn't have been playing it since I met only half the RAM requirement, but I wanted to see what it was like. I didn't care for what I played.

It's been a while since I played, but I didn't care for the battle system from what little of it I experienced.

Fileplanet has a 1gb video for download. If they think i'm downloading a video at that size that's less than 1 hour 30 long, they have another thing coming.

Being a connoisseur of MMORPG's I'll give you my take summed up in one word:

Eh.

I've played almost all the big ones up until some of the latest games:

Asheron's Call
Asheron's Call 2
Everquest
Dark Age of Camelot
Planetside (mmofps really)
Shadowbane
World of Warcraft

Mxo didn't really grab my attention. You create your character based on a few classes and jump in. They set you into an obvious newbie area where there are just a bunch of people lined up on either side of these courtyard places that just give general newbie tips. You're set up with a little link where you follow a linear list of missions that involve you running here and there doing random stuff (getting an item, moving it somewhere else - escort somebody somewhere - kill some guy) and you get information (cash) with which you can buy stuff.

One thing I thought was impressive is the skill tree. I couldn't progress in it (I think maybe I needed to be a higher lvl or something) but it seemed pretty cool how you can specialize in certain things.

The thing it lacked was things to do other than these simple little missions. I did these missions for like 2 hours and was just leveling. It didn't feel matrix-ey to me. I was just running through some crappy town where I kept seeing npc's lining courtyards. Agents would be standing around doing nothing. No sense of fear, bad guys were gangs. I just felt like the matrix was empty and I had nowhere to progress to. I didn't wanna be fighting gangs the whole damn time and I was getting tired of these missions where you just follow a waypoint to a building and spend a minute or two getting to the actual location in the building you need to be, only to leave and find your way to the next building.

I think some of the draw to MMORPG's is the immersive world that other games offer (especially WoW) with different environments and places to explore. Mxo was just drab city environments the whole way through from what I could tell filled with gangs and npc's... In the 3+ hours I played I never heard any player speak a single word. The community lacked, but if there were a bunch of people it still wouldn't have changed much.

If I ever get a MMORPG again it'll be WoW.

Thats my impression on it too

I played MxO awhile ago, it was just PvP and I was not impressed at all. I found the battle boring and all that. It didnt feel like the matrix

WoW is the only MMORPG for me

I would have got the beta, but, I don't have a credit card, and downloading a 1.5 gig file from fileplanet isn't my idea of fun.

Besides this game has been delayed for the end of 2005, so you'll have more time to think about it.
But in teh meantime check Guild wars, you have a beta next friday the 18th, and check Jade Empire when it comes out, cause I guarantee that won't be just a game, it will be like a 50 hour orgasm.

matrix online will be released march 22 ..they posted it yesterday

Hmm, I read in pcgameplay that it was delayed, but ok then buy it if you must.

heheh I'm undecided ...WoW is the only morg I've played ..so I think it'll fall falt of those expectations ...I dont know, that's why I asked what people thought of the game

Well it's probably not going to be as good as WoW, but stern what about my suggestions, you know tehre are good rpg's that aren't online, and then you have GW.

OMG, I was just at the Jade Empire site, and it says exclusive for X-box, do they mean like D3 only counting the consoles or also the PC, I thought this game would come out on the PC to, goddam this is a ****ing emergency, does anyone know.

yes ..but it's from bioware so maybe it'll get ported to pc

Hey I'm sorry for that little hijack, but it's so disturbing to hear what they have done, well anyway hope you enjoy yourself, cause I sure as hell won't be.
