It is meant to happen, but it has not been officially confirmed as being in production. Remedy has stated that they are not working on it.

What? Cancelled? Where? When?

Parts of 1 and 2 were lame

Lies.

but bullet itme was freaking awesome.

True words.

Let's hope it will happen. The franchise certainly is worth it.

.bog.

Great, now we have another "Numbers" on our hands.

I assume this means you were born on the 21st of July, 1988.

What is the 57? 5.7 lbs at birth?

Maybe we'll call you "birthday" or something.

That alone invalidates your entire post.

Yea, which is why I didn't bother commenting on the topic at hand, and rather get the discussion of his name out of the way in an otherwise useless thread.

Mockery of Max Payne is frowned upon at best around here.

Correctamundo! Max Payne 1 & 2 were fantastic games, emotional and exciting with an amazing atmosphere, and top-notch action to boot!

Sadly, from what I understand, Max Payne 3 will not be made by Remedy. I fear for it.

I liked both characters, differences aside.

The stories fit well with both faces.

Me too. I don't really care about that, Max's face ingame in the first game really irritated me, but he looked cooler in the graphic novel there. Second game he looks good in both, but not as cool in the graphic novel as in the first one.

You know what will shock each and every one of you? I have NEVER played any Max Payne game. :(

Anyway, unless it's made by Remedy I hope it doesn't happen. MP1 was great and MP2 is one of my favorite games, so unless the same team/writer returns for the third one I'd prefer if they just left it there.

I liked both games.

But I didn't want to kill Vlad.

They are busy making Alan Wake, which looks more gorgeous every day

Not too sure who to respond to first but here we go:

About my name: It's not a fancy numbers thing at all. In fact it is simply the only thing in life I have ever memorized .It's my old bank account number from when I was in college and when I was registering for this site I had screwed up several times with other usernames (it wasn't sending anything to my email to verify, but they got that fixed) and so at about try number 8 I went with this.

As for parts of the games being lame: The games were fantastic and I have replayed each one probably 15 times. The stories, esp 1 were awesome and would make great movies. Concept:Awesome, Gameplay: Awesome, Replayability:Awesome. Runing through the burning restaurant: Awesome, the steady flow of death at Vinny's dealership:awesome

BUT that doesn't mean that parts of it were not lame. If you need a list here's one:
1)most "actors" in part one were holding plastic dollar store guns and posing like rejects from a sears catalogue tryout. Like how about the "finito brothers" who wern't old enough to shave. What gangster sticks his tongue out like he's 5? If you can think of one actor (other than Max) who fit character then you are doing better than me.
2)Much of the voice acting was crap, and not the filmoir style which actually I thought was a neat idea, but the actual quality of the acting was a real distraction ie: the whole "taking candy from a baby"/poker conversation or when Mona meets Max.
3) that whole stupid babies blood trail v-dream or whatever crap I had to endure to get back to fun. If any of you dispute that garbage was fun then just block my posts cause we'll never see eye to eye.
4)having a completely different set of actors for part 2, although a very large improvement, must certainly be classified as lame. Don't get me wrong, the Mona in 2 is MUCH better, but come on.
5)His "smirk" in part one: bush league

Do these games overcome those problems? Absolutely. But don't be so crazy as to say my posts are not "valid" because I think there are elements of a game that could have been better.

You will now be known as "bank guy".

Oh, and to fit in with this thread: You disagree with me so you suck!!

1&2) Agreed, acting overall sucked, BUUUT; Remedy was short on cash and had yet to prove themselves as quality gamemakers, so they could really only hire one decent actor for the first game, IE James McCaffrey. Ditto goes for the Graphic Novel, they were really just using folks from around the office from what I hear.
3) Yeah. The Nightmares were annoying. The ones in the second game are miiiiiles better. Genuienely creepy but not so hard that you'll use up ten quicksaves just going through one.
4) Again, once they actually got gobs of money, they felt they should use it to improve the quality of the game, and god bless them they didn't use it all on fancy graphics, they actually gave us some really good actors. Changing the faces I thought was unjustified, but for Max I thought it worked.
5) The smirk annoyed the hell out of me. Glad to see it was gone in the second one [and I am apparentely one of the few who did not cry a river over the change of Max's apperance, even though that Sam Lake is one cool-looking dude].

Yeah I know most of my complaints can be traced back to budget. I'm not remotely surprised that the actors came from around the office (or perhaps nursery) I also totally agree about the part 2 nightmares. They were much more mood enhancing and less annoying. In 1 I just hard saved after the nightmares and loaded around them to avoid them.

I think most people forget how hyped the first Max Payne was too. It was a huge game at the time.

The demo video was released on magazine demo discs around HL1 time I think. I remember following it all the way through it's development and all its delays. MP1 and Shenmue were the only 2 games I cared about for ages.

I don't even think I've played MP2 all the way to the end. Bullet-time wasn't as good either.

How can you say MP1 and 2 were lame, when they were actually mostly awesome, with only a few lame elements?

It's as if I said hl2.net was lame. Actually, it's got a great community etc. and is generally awesome, but suffers from lame spam fes-

IMA FRYING MA BACON!

-ts sometimes. That does not, however, make it lame.

If all you liked from Max Payne was the bullet time, look out for Stranglehold instead. Looks like it's delivering on the gameplay side of things at any rate, but the story and style and other things are still up in the air.

Although I have to admit bullet-time and the outright john woo style shootouts in Max Payne were very appealing, they are not what made the game. Playing through Max Payne 1 and 2 in my eyes is all about the compelling narrative combined with enthralling comic panel cut-scenes , I just enjoyed the game from beginning to end, never felt like I was enduring anything - it was B movie quality action all the way through, except I was doing the ass kicking.

Tbh, I played it for the action and the kickass one-liners :p

Yeah those were awesome, hearing what Max was thinking was partially what made it so great - and shooting unarmed junkies... at least you think they are until you approach and they whip out the biggest damn gun you've seen yet and start unloading a clip into you.
