He looks like he's in private security and the guy's presumably paying him? It's not like he ever cared much for his personal well-being before.

That comparison makes zero sense.

There's a bald guy and uhhhhhhhhhhh PESSIMISM

I really hate the setting. Why does every game these days need to take place in either some desert or some lush green island?

Story looks like it'll be cliche in a bad way, not a Max Payne way.

Not so much Kane & Lynch as it is Die Hard.

Bruce Willis gonna be in this shit?

Story kinda gives me a Breaking Bad meets Die Hard vibe. And like anything with Bruce Willis in it, I figure it will probably be entertaining, but not what I'd call "good" in any sort of intellectual sense.

Probably because of people bitching hard about games being black, grey and brown. Now they're cramming the more colourful warm-climate setting down our throats, until we start puking palm trees.

I know you're talking in general, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about the art direction in the previous Max Payne games. On the contrary it's been praised for it.

I have been pessimistic as hell about this game pretty much since the word "go" ... But that trailer may have just changed my mind. Actually looks like a pretty decent game. Still not big on the setting (like everyone else) and as gritty as Sam Lake says it's going to be, I still preferred the whole American Noir vibe about 1 & 2. Underground crime and gangs in New York City and such, the mean dark streets and seedy joints.

I'm more willing to give it a chance now, gotta be said.

I think they want to get a brazilian crime movie feel to it,like the movies city of god and the like,so yeah just cuz is a tropical setting doesnt mean it wont be "dark" and "gritty"

and yeah I kind of like that since I come from a country like that,to see that in ma vidiagames

I am going to be replaying Max Payne 1 and 2 soon in preparation for this game, new trailer hasn't diminished my excitement in any way.

I like this post.

Oh man reminding me of City of God made me like the setting a little more. :p

yeah pretty excited about this. it doesn't look amazingly invigorating, but it certainly looks pretty well put together, for a shooter at least. everything seems to flow really, really nicely.

Hmm. Still seeing a lack of difficulty. I reiterate that I'm going to be pissed if the game lets you walk out in the open taking fire from 3 different directions and you walk away with a small scratch on harder difficulties. And it better had not lock the harder difficulties until you beat the easy ones.

Other than that, I have a creeping feeling this game is going to have quick time events... what with all the seemless transitioning between gameplay and cutscene.

Trailers never really show off difficulty. Anyway, even if the harder ones are locked to begin with, there'll be a trainer for it.

Didn't the original Max Payne have a degree of self-adjusting difficulty? I seem to recall that if you were finding the game too easy it got harder and if you were finding it too hard it eased up on you so that it kept a certain level of challenge there without being uber frustrating.

Uh, nope. You had to beat the game on one of the lower difficulties before you could even play on harder ones.

I thought the second one was supposed to have some kind of scale like that, but I don't remember it being implemented, since that had the same difficulty system (IE: Having to unlock the harder ones).

I'm tentatively excited for this game. From a technical standpoint it looks excellent. I am somewhat concerned by how much they use the word "cinematic". Max Payne was one of those games that was linear as shit, but it never particularly mattered. I'm hoping this doesn't cross that line and feel like a ride.

What I'm wondering is why the hell they'd be showing any kind of difficulty while trying to capture footage for the purpose of demonstrating something. It reminds me of people who complain about people not taking damage during a gameplay walkthrough. Do you want to see gameplay mechanics being demonstrated, or do you want to see the person playing who is absolutely awful at video games, which seems to be everyone who does gameplay videos, die 20 seconds in? Rockstar don't normally shy away from making a game difficult. Fairly certain they'll have a one hit kill mode in there. Wouldn't worry about it being easy at all.

Uhh, yep, actually. I just happen to have a copy of Max Payne sitting on the shelf and this is what it says on the back:

"Auto adjusting gameplay, another first in gaming. Self adjusting difficulty keeps you in the sweet spot of gaming bliss."

The gameplay modes you're talking about aren't higher difficulties per se, they just add in different elements. For example, 'New York Minute' mode has a time limit that ticks down and each kill you make replenishes it.

Well poopy poop pants.

I guess my point is, the game better be challenging and unforgiving. It's entirely possibly the smart difficulty will be too easy.

Yeah, Rockstar probably don't care for the sliding difficulty malarkey.

For those that aren't sold on the tropical setting, this may provide some consolation.

Rockstar says NYC area levels will be included in both the single-player story and in the Max Payne 3 multiplayer. The game is set for launch on May 29.

From some random gamespy article, should've copy and pasted the link.

Looks pretty, but I've been fooled before!

Now, those screenshots... Those are the Max I know and love.

I always thought Max looked a lot like this guy:

I don't know what the casting crew was thinking with Marky Mark.

There better be a stinky cheese face in-joke, now that they can do facial animations.
