What are some things that you can do to maximize FPS, beside changing all of the video settings to low/normal.

i heard this one thing once and now i know it works!

my m8 told me and he did it works too.

what happend was i got a new cpu, RAM and Graphics card and my fps increased by avout 80 !! good luck :p

:S

^^^^ lol haha who would have thought that had an impact on fps lol
your can overclock your compenants or change video drivers. stuff like that

ironman - Low graphics settings are NOT the lowest you can get.

Try 'mat_picmip 4' in console to see what I mean :E

EDIT: I play with that regularily, by the way.

and how do you revers this 'mat_picmip 4' 'mat_picmip 0' ?

Here are some commands I found that you can use to increase your FPS but have to sacrifice graphics.

mat_filtertextures 0 (Removes anti-aliasing on textures)
mat_filterlightmaps 0 (Does the same to lightmaps)
mat_dxlevel 7 (One of the obvious ones. Sets to DirectX 7 meaning features sush as normal maps, specular are disabled. For some reason mine goes down to 6 but that's probably because my 6800 GS is a PoS)
r_lod 5 (Switches all models with LoD to lowest level)
mat_picmap 4 (Like dekstar mentioned. Will switch to mip level 4 making textures very blurry)

CS:S will now look similar to Doom. :p

Here are some tools you might find useful for whatever reason:

mat_show_texture_memory_usage 1 (Shows memory usage in top left)
net_graph 3 (Shows network status and FPS in bottom left)

Some will make more difference that others. For me, they make little to no difference at all but again, that's because my 6800 GS is lame. :|

I belive there's a console command that made the computer allocate more RAM to the game, speaking of RAM you can end some of the pointles system applications before playing.
