there are so many theories abt gman put forward by all everybody but wouldnt it be hilarious to discover, maybe in hl3 ,that gman is simply a brainless answer ( i dont know, help me out ) to the most asked about question in the hl universe: who exactly is he?

in fact everybodys theories abt gman is a big boost to valve now they dont need to crack their heads trying to really decide who gman really is.. (they probably are not entirely sure themselves.) they can just pick and choose one of the many ideas floating around the net and presto! everybodys happy and satisfied.

or maybe theyll pick a simple theory abt who gman is just, like maybe an illusion or something even stupider to give everybody the shock of half life.

however, i find the latter is usually true.

i dont really want to know who gman is. i would love for him and his identity to remain a mystery for people to ponder about for years to come. thats what i like about gman. i think ill be disappointed in some way no matter what g-man turns out to be.

im just worried that its gonna be really stupid. but i trust valve in its writing.

yeah the moment gmans identity is revealed, if it is an unacceptable explanation, fans will pissed off, even if it is acceptable, like the gman being some superior life form to combine but is also waging a war against them with gordons help, fans will lose interest in the game. because half life is represented as much by gman as gordon.

plus as a hl fan i dont understand why valve shrouded the hl2 single player campaign with so much mystery, leaving everything for the player to discover for himself.

this is good for people who have played hl1 and are familiar with the hl universe, but to people new to hl2, it is a complete turn off.

bottom line: valve maybe should have pondered carefully on their story or maybe give a flashback intro cutscene, which is a bit stupid because otherwise there is nothing to bring in more hl fans other than the ground breaking gameplay and game physics. plus hl2 mods are still in its infacy.

and does anybody else think the hl2 box packaging was very poorly done? not even a proper jewel case for the discs and a single card for a manual?? valve must be really cutting costs

This is key to who he is.

If he had no part in creating the legend of the Freeman, then he is just owning you when you would have helped out the resistance (who pays for your contract) anyway. That makes him your enemy, in the end.

On the other hand, if he did encourage the legend (think of the scene where he is talking to Cubbage) ... after all, isn't that a big tool of covert operations? secret dissemination of propaganda? ...
then he is more like a coach or manager making sure you achieve your full potential.
