Holy crap!

http://www.totalwar.com/community/medieval2.htm

"Medieval 2 is the latest and greatest game to be released in the best selling and award-winning Total War series. Set in the years 1080-1530 the most turbulent period in European history, the game combines a vast, deep-thinking turn-based strategy campaign with the most cinematic, epic and brutal real-time battles ever seen in the genre.

A vastly enhanced version of the Total War engine vividly portrays the pure bloodlust of Medieval warfare with massive battles of more than 10,000 troops splayed across new graphically rich environments. For the first time in the Total War series each troop is an individual, garbed with the rich heraldic colours and glinting arms and armour of the period."

"Key Features Include:

Real-Time Battles On a Massive Scale

Epic Battles with Enhanced Unit Detail

Thunderous battles on a huge scale with thousands of units on screen. Armies are now made up of meticulously detailed troops built with unique heads, body, weapons and armour with unique animations and poses that gives each individual unit character and depth. Troops and cavalry are decorated with all the heraldic finery and colour of medieval warfare that’s gradually muddied and bloodstained through the course of battle.

New Unit Abilities
A legion of more than 250 new and unique units split over 21 factions, each with their own new special abilities that open up a wealth of intuitive battlefield tactics.

Advanced Combat System
Zoom to the frontline and witness the fast, visceral melee combat enhanced by new spectacular battlefield animations. Troops block and parry attack moves and string together deadly combo attacks and finishing moves before scanning the battlefield for their next kill.

New Explosive Sieges
Embark on spectacular siege battles as huge armies and fearsome siege machines rumble into action. Devastating cannon, pummel imposing defences of fully destructible cities and castles before setting them aflame under the night sky.

Advanced Lighting and Richer Environments
A newly enhanced graphics engine brings the battlefield environment to life like never before. The stunningly realistic landscapes feature detailed vegetation with sprawling settlements. Newly detailed dynamic weather effects beat down on new terrain types illuminated by enhanced lighting that captures every glint and spark as arms and armour clash under a gleaming sun.

Enhanced Multiplayer Battles
New multiplayer battle modes will ease the player’s passage to the battlefield and keep the online conflict raging.

A New All-Conquering Campaign

History in the Making
A huge campaign spanning from the years 1080-1530, that will take the player beyond the first Crusade up until the dawn of the renaissance. An extended campaign map will allow passage to South and Central America bringing the player into battle with the Aztecs.

New Settlement Types
Build through six levels of settlement ranging from humble villages to vast cities and wooden forts to mighty stone fortress. Develop your faction as a feudal aristocracy using you castles to keep the peasants in check whilst conquering your enemies with your powerful armies. Or build cities to develop a wealthy urban society, and battle your foes with diplomacy, bribery, assassination and armies of mercenaries."

"Medieval 2: Total War will be charging its way onto streets in winter 2006. For more information please go to www.totalwar.com or www.sega-europe.com"

I know it's optimistic, but could Winter 2006 mean within the next few months? They've been keeping awfully quiet since they released Rome...

holy shit that looks awesome ...I may have to get this one after being somewhat unimpressed with the first one ..due more to my limited attention span than the quality of the game

Man, looks great, what I like most is that theya re giving each soldier a diferent face and animation. The combo stuff looks to arcade though.

Yay! for another Total War game. This series rules supreme.

Nay! for the fact that this is basically a rerun of the first Medieval, only with better graphics and (slightly) changed gameplay. Couldn't they have picked a new period or another continent?

Wow. Why are they going back and redoing the Medieval age? I would have preferred some other era.

But still, its looking good. If they do this well like Rome Total War, thatll be good, that game is a great game.

I used to check the Rome: Total war forums every once in a while, and that's all they'd whine for: Another Medieval:Total war

I wish they'd saved this for rome :(

Wow--" a vastly enhanced version of the Total War engine"--That sounds incredible. This will be on my watch list from now on. Thanks for the info!

yay. Another game my computer will have trouble running. I want an SLI with a dual core processor. :(

Quite possibly the greatest game ever. Ever. Ever, goddamn you all, ever.

Looks like sex on a screenshot! :D

The need for a PC upgrade is becoming ever clearer

Would'be prefered a new time, but still loved orig Medieval...should be 10x better!

Son of a BITCH.

the wait for Rome Total war was the most excruciating time in my life.

Now this?

Medieval Era is the greatest era for total war series. I'm glad to see they're revamping it!

Oh my god oh my god OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!!!!

I thought for sure they would have gone and made something like a "colonial: Total War" game before going back and remaking the medieval style again. Personally however I greatly prefer the medieval setting so this is greatly welcomed by me. :D

wow but i want to ask a question

what is the different between rome total war series and the medieval series ?

hope its not a stupid question :p

Medieval isn't a series... Its a part of the Total War Series.

There was Shogun: Total War
Medieval: Total War
Rome: Total War:
now I guess Medieval 2: Total War.

aha

thanks

If they fix the AI stupidity from Rome, this will be the best game ever.

I am quite looking forward to pimping with my daughters. That was one of the best parts of the original Medieval. I am also going to make it my goal to get one of my priests on the papal seat and unleashing a crusade. Evil popes ftw!!!

Focking hell, I am going to annihilate the world as those damned crazy mongols. The west will shake and the power riding from the steppes!!1 N00bZ!!!!!11

Woah looks like Ikerous and Cyberpitz pr0n on acid :O

Oh baby, thats looks hot. I dont mind it being midevil again, since I only played Rome:TW... this looks great.

There's only one thing I want improving in the next Total War...
Full on MULTIPLAYER. Not just battles, but the works - campaign map 'n all.

And a Middle Earth Total War would also be cool. Come on Creative Assembly, the engine was BORN for this :bounce:

Medieval was my favourite of the three Total Wars, better atmosphere, artwork, and music than Shogun, and great voice acting from Sean Pertwee.
The dumbness of Rome ruined that episode after all the hype about it's improved AI, and the cheesy American accents of the generals and units just ruined the atmosphere when so much historical research had gone into so many other details.

Gonna look forward to Medieval 2, even if it is just another shiny version of an old game.

New graphics are fine, but what i really want... is better improved, actually intelligent AI. Rome is a fun game but it does take the piss abit, in the battles And the campaign and if they're going to make it mostly single player then they need to sort this out.

Campaign multiplayer sounds great... i hope this is included, and i also hope the territories are small for it, so you could have the scottish versus the english for example and not just it being 2 areas, i want to take liverpool, london, and all the other castles the barons had.

yus, the AI in RTW was stupid and predictable. The very reason I want an entire campaign to be multiplayer is for that very reason. It's pointless playing a single game for weeks on end, planning strategy and espionage - for me, easily the best part of the game - against an opponent you know you will beat eventually anyway. Where's the challenge in that?

I. WANT. STRATEGY. MAP. MULTIPLAYER.

and lasers for eyes.

I pray to god that the multiplayer servers are actually stable.

Rome:TW you can rarely get a decent game because its either laggy to hell or your teamates decided they want a peasent zerg..

No....what they meant by "campaign multiplayer" was that battles would be chained together, one after another, in a campaign sort of vein. No strategy map in multiplayer, fellas.

I didn't think it would happen, but it did and i'm blown away, Medieval II :dozey: . Rome was awsome, but i've been itching for another Medieval game. The time period is so perfect for total war. The classical armies of Rome, Greece, Carthage etc. are cool and all, but I want knights again damnit! The era really makes a big difference, it's not just Rome: Total War painted Medieval, people seem to be getting that impression. The feature I'm excited about most are assassination movies, yes, they will be in Medieval II: Total War :borg: .

This game will be sooooooooooooo system intensive. All those soldiers, everyone of them with unigue animations.

I imagine you'd need a top of the range PC.

Meh.....we got 10-11 months till this sucker comes out. Hopefully I'll be able to get something a bit more hefty than my radeon 9100 I'm sitting with right now.

Besides, M2:TW is clearly to good to pass up, even with a k5/TNT2 uber combo.
