I've been planning a medieval themed mod, I have the basics of most aspects of the mod typed out. It's basicly going to be a team based hack and slash, leaning towards fast paced action (instead of realism).
HL2: Medieval is the working title which of course isn't final.
Here's some of the basics...
It's intended to be entirely third person, the camera is fixed behind the player, but can be moved from right behind the player, to a higher position.
There is no leveling up, or gaining experience, or needing to reach a certain level to use magic, it's just straight deathmatch hack and slash action. There also are no dwarves, or elves, or any other kind of fantasy creatures, all characters are humans.
You can command a team of AI team mates, the max amount depends on how many other players are playing. Each player gets his own AI team. Players can ally with other players (Alliances can't be changed during gameplay.) and their teams creating anything from a massive 15 team (person) free for all with about 5 AI team mates each with no allies, to a three-way fight with 5 allied players per side and any other kind of combination.
You have the basic game play modes, such as death match (no allying), team deatch match (allying required), capture the flag (allying required, only two sides allowed), VIP (allying required, only two sides allowed), and many more modes later.
You issue commands to your AI team mates to have them do anything from having those with bows/crossbows provide cover fire, to having those with melee weapons to divide, move around the enemy and attack all at once.
The weapons consist of daggers, knives, swords, axes, polearms, hammers and other blunt weapons, bows, crossbows (both rifle and pistol sized versions), various forms of magic like fire balls, lightning, etc. and other weapons like fire/explosive arrows for bows, torches, etc...
Each player can have two weapons, and a shield, and can be used in a number of cominations. If the two weapons aren't too large, they can be used in both hands. The shield can be used, if the weapon being used isn't a large two handed weapon. Also, a player can have a bow, and a backup dagger/short sword and a small shield if needed.
There also could be the usual powerups scattered around the maps (such as health, armor, etc.)
About me... I'm a 3d artist, I'll be doing mainly the weapon models and their various LODs, and maybe the site if necessary. (You can find a link to my 3d gallery in my signature.) I have over 4 years experience working in 3dsmax and some other 3d programs on various game mods, it'll be almost 5 years a couple months into next year.
I'd need...
Programmers (lead/main programmer will be the one takes the code/models/textures/maps/etc. and organizes them and compiles them into a playable mod, co-ordinates the rest of the programmers by assinging which parts to work on)
Character modelers who would be modeling the various characters. (Being able to texture their own characters would be great.)
Another modeler to model map props, powerups, and other non-weapons.
Texture artists to texture the weapons, and other models as needed.
Animators/Riggers to rig the characters/weapons/etc., and make various character/weapon animations (such as various idle and attack animations for the weapons, characters, etc.)
Sound effects engineers/producers to create the various sounds needed for the mod.
And any others that would be needed.
If you are interested you can e-mail me ([email protected]), be sure to include what you can do and links to previous work/gallery site/portfolio/etc.
