She is absolutely correct though. What idiot goes to see Transformer for it's rich story or complex characters? The only valid reason for watching transformers is to see giant robots kick ass.

Pandering to idiots is a pretty poor excuse, even for making an incredibly lazily written and generally shitty movie.

Ttrying to sell a deep and meaningful story about giant robots that turn into cars would be truly pandering to idiots.

Letting people see giant robots smash things and not bullshitting about what you are delivering is entertaining, not pandering.

Transformers is a movie that tells you what you are going to get, and it gives it to you. I can't say it any better:

Except that I think the movie that came out in the 80's had a story - and it was fun at the same time.

Mindless action flicks only appeal to people who are themselves mindless. Excuse me for wanting a better class of movie - nay, a better class of people.

Stop with the straw man. Nobody said it needs a deep and meaningful story, or that it should be "rich or complex", but frankly everyone involved should be embarressed that they "don't give a ****" about it.
You realise there's a happy medium between the two extremes, right?
 
She really does have a good point. Transformers isn't trying to be something like The Wrestler. The trailer shows you exactly what you should be expecting in this movie: explosions, hot chick, robots ****ing shit up, mindless fun. Who the hell goes into a Michael Bay movie expecting groundbreaking narrative anyway?

Also, she's ****ing hot on that motorcycle.... so hot.

ITT: No one can decide whether they should hate Transformers 2, Megan Fox, or people who enjoy Transformers most.
 
I kinda liked transformers. I mean sure, I cringed when that guy got "urinated" on.
And when the robots where hiding in the back yard and Shia tried to distract his dad.
Also when that one soldier didn't notice a big ****ing bang right behind him becouse he had earphones on.
The whole ebay thing.

Okay alot of things where pretty crap, but shit, giant robots blowing shit up kinda made up for it.
That and Megan Fox. I don't really care about what she has to say, her opinions on matters etc.
 
Yeah it makes complete sense that these movies isnt about the story and complex characters since it based on a cartoon that was intended to entertain kids and teenagers. Still I think if Transformers was done by some other people, they could make it exactly that without so much plotholes. Yet the thing with Michael Bay films is it has this typical action atmosphere to it. I mean if at one point you were to put Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in a transformer movie, you would think you were watching bad boys 2. Really basically to me these transformer movies are is michael bays typical action direction with transformer in it. I guess everyone loses sight of that because all transformer fans start to associate their feelings with the cartoons, that they then become convinced that theyre watch an actual transformer movie. But the only thing really great about the first transformer movie was the robots fighting, yet I also need to care for these characters and the story as well. Still she has every right to act like a stuck up ***** since shes essentially will again be an empty shell in the second movie. But I would do exactly what she said, I would stay home. However my friends will convince me to go see it with them. Luckily I managed to not see Wolverine Origins, but I was unsuccessful with Terminator Salvation... :(

I'll stick to my good movies, and not give a shit about people cashing in on the idiot mob at the theatres.

pretty much sums up my thoughts too,even sometimes mindless movie can be fun too.
 
I really do have some irrational hatred for Megan Fox. I think it's because she's something of a self-absorbed cunt.

it was a cartoon made to sell toys ..even then it was obvious that that was their primary reason behind the cartoon series ..it was hack work made to sell a product. And it's no different today, except now the transformers are being used to sell GM cars ..they dont even disguise this fact. so Michael Bay is folllowing in the footsteps of his uncreative business suit wearing predecesors


anyways this argument that popcorn movies dont need to be good to be enjoyable has merit so long as you recognise it for what it is: mindless schlock. So in this sense no one in their right mind could call this a "good movie" because it's not. it may be an enjoyable movie to some
