No I'm not gonna get TOO gay on you guys, but for a minute I just wanna "ponder" on something.

Think about it. For most of us, the last 5 years we've been on quite a journey with half life. We played the game and loved it, and cs, and all the mods. Think of all the maps we've played, all the mods we've played, all the memories and good times we've had. All the shit we did, the clans we joined, the people we met. It's been an awesome journey. And now it's come to an end, and Half-Life 2 is here to take its place, as we start a brand new journey. What do you guys think about all this? Will this new road be even better? Can it live up to all we've created these past 5 years?

Man, you've got that right. It's gonna be hard putting an end to my HL experience, but if HL2 goes right, then I may just have another journey on my hands. =] I hope it will be even better this time, but if not that's cool with me.

Shit, it better live up to all we expect and more, especially with all this bullshit PR from valve. I actually haven't been playing hl or its mods much in the past year. I was going to start playing CS again, but moved to Phoenix and here my roomies' router has serious conflicts with Steam. But back on topic, yeah, I think I got more value out of HL than I have out of any game before or since. I guess in that regard I can stand to wait a little longer for HL2. It's still amazing how many people still play HL or its mods. It's 5 years old for God's sake! So many other games have come and gone with decent multiplayers, but none of them have been able to surpass HL, even with its outdated graphics.

Untill my friend gets a good comp, or if he can run hl2 on his old one, me and him will still play lan hldm. When hl2 comes out I wont bin hl1 and set fire to it or anything..

As for a journy, I've grown up alot since hl1 came out (6 years in fact.....) but I dont have anything to do with hl, to me its just a game.. not a life.

I think the only game i can STILL play through the entire singeplayer and can't stop playing it till i beat it again is half-life (and expansions). I have a big ass library of PC games but i can't even think of another where i've done that.

i think i've beaten it maybe 6 times now... also i'm really into Natural Selection right now... that mod is addicting!

I think there is something in HL that makes it pretty fun to play over and over but i can't quite but my fingers on what it is........

Actually yea, i remember the winter of 99, playing HL while listening to pink floyd...

All the good days i spent on WON, fraggin and getting fragged, the old TFC models, the times when cs was not a daycare...

i played crossfire so much at my lan parties, so fun, that nuking aspect of the level was ace. i really enjoyed CS around beta 5 too. i remember playing militia alot and i loved it. and then dod 1.3b, one of the funnest mods ever. it was so perfect, great levels, gibbing players.

On topic: Yeah. It really has been quite a journey. I think that, aside from the blundering newbies that will inevitably come, the HL2 one will be just as good, if not better.

I have so many great memories... I've played many games but HL has always been the 'main' game and other games were just games you play when bored... It would be cool to be able to contact some of the guys you've met in the past but most of them (like me =p) have changed their nicknames so many times that it's impossible ;p HL2 will be an awesome game but it won't reach the 'memorability' of HL1 for me anymore. Hopefully it will for the newer gamers =]

thanks ghost, but anyway guys, to resume our good discussion here, does anyone remember their first cs map? here's a few questions now that i think of it:

what was ur first cs map?
what was ur first mod for hl other than cs? assuming cs was ur first.
what was ur favorite mod?
what was ur favorite past time?

I don't think it's a matter of it living up to the original, but letting ourselves take what Half-Life 2 is, and run with it, and enjoy it like we did Half-Life 1.

But yes, the memories are good...sniping in TFC with a 33.6kbps connection and having to lead people an inch in front for that headshot. I got into DoD at 1.3b and was instantly addicted, so much so that I'm still playing very regularly today. Lanning with mates while playing hldm when it first came out. *wipes tear* Those were, and these are golden times
