I updated my rig to a p4 (3 ghz) and bought a gig of memory. Does it make sense to add the memory (pc133) from my old rig. The pc 133 memory looks like it will fit but is probably slower then the memory I bought yesterday. I have about a gig of the PC 133 I could add.

Should I add it or not?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

well, it prolly is sdr so it wont work since its "old" its prolly sdr
spend abother 80 bucks on another gig and ur pc is a gamin-rdy

Does more then a gig of memory really help? How much memory is really needed?

yes it does, witnh games like BF2 or F.E.A.R AOEIII it is good to have 2gigs-but not more.

a Gig is fine some poeple have 2 to ensure maximum setting on most games

I wouldn't adivse mixing different PC types and DDR tpyes of memeory together as i did this and it completley screwed the Busses of my memory or summat : P

Well since you have a P4 3.0GHz, I'm sure you're using at least PC2700 or higher. I'd go with PC3200 and save that PC133 memory for a PIII machine.

ive just got myself another stick of 512 DDR PC3200 Corsair XMS, so i now have 1.5GB & i have seen a massive improvement in FPS for CSS & BF2

how do you have machine with a p4 3ghz and pc133 memory thats such hard to find memory

The PC 133 memory is from my old machine. I replaced the mother board, chip and memory. I am currenlty running a gig of PC 3200. My question was is it advisable to add my old memory to the new. consenses says no.

i say no lol pc133 is such old ram your better off with the pc3200 gig that you have now

Don't mix your memory! I did that and windows would restart randomly. In which case I then found out it was because the too chips where incompatible and that the first chip was labeled incorrectly buy the company I bought it from. The folks newegg made a mistake, and sent me the wrong chip the first time and the correct chip the second so both chips ended up being different.

I didn't even know you could use that Ooooooooooolllldddd memory in a DDR slot. I should put some in my mobo and see if it'll run dual channel!!! I'll probably gain like 100 frames in CS:S

edit: im kidding of course

You'll slow down your computer greatly, I think all of your RAM runs as slowest as the slowest chip, and PC133 is simply too slow.
