Let me share with you the story of a Deity born of a virgin birth on december 25th. His mother was referred to as the Mother of God. He lived his short life to please the Creator and was known as the son/sun and light of he world. In his life time he would perform many miracles. Everything from healing the sick, raising the dead, the ability to control the elements of nature and feeding thousands with a few fish and loaf of bread. His law was love and forgiveness. His initiation ritual was a cleansing of the soul with water(baptism). He had 12 followers who learned from him in his last years on earth and after his death went around the world to spread the word of salvation. He held a last supper at which he broke bread and shared wine as a symbol of his body and blood. He gave his life for the salvation of humans and on Easter sunday he arose and ascended into Heaven promising all who lived by his laws eternal salvation. He also promised the world a Holy Spirit as a guide and comforter. He also taught of a coming final judgement in which the dead would be resurrected.

Ring any bells? If you guessed Jesus Christ, not this time. I'm speaking of the legend of the God Mithras worshipped by the Romans right up until around 300 A.D. This Zoroastrian God was born around 144 b.c. A great Torobolium or place of worship was built in his name after his death. It stood on the very spot that the vatican stands today. The cathedral was headed by a representative of Mithras known as a Papa. Robes were worn as uniform accompanied by a tall pointy hat and a purple shall that draped they're shoulders. A vow of celebicy was taken by all ministers of his teaching. His day of worship was set aside as sunday. the list goes on and on. There are so many more uncanny relations to the story we were taught as being Jesus', it's spooky.
Around 300 A.D. Mithras was thrown out for a new belief system.....Christianity. Oddly enough the story and rituals stayed the same. The dates were never changed even though it can be proven historicaly that Jesus was not born in December. Jesus was a practicing Jew and his day of Sabbath was saturday not sunday. Have we been misled on the true story of Jesus? There is no way that this is all mere coincidance. Who is the Catholic church really promoting and worshipping? Is it possible then that Jesus' story was rewritten 300 years after his death to fit the legend of Mithras? Lots to chew on here people.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the holidays. :)

what?

Happy holidays to you too.

(yeah, and everyone already knows that conventional christianity is engineered as crap :D )

And then we found out...it was all bollocks. The end.

Good Job

Perhaps you should educate yourself on why December 25 was choosen. That is not the actual birth date of Jesus. A lot of the non-critical features of Christianity (ie church does not have to be on Sunday) are randomly choosen. Most likely they were choosen on the basis that people were familar with them at the time. An example of this is that we have a Winter Vacation for our school system as opposed to a Christmas Vacation.

Man, I bet this thread must really make you feel big. Good Job.

woah, i didnt know that. and what Tinneth said. :)
Happy Mithras to you too.

Yes, quite a few of Christianity's modern holidays are just converted pagan holidays.

Stupid humanity and their insistance on worshipping deities. Always with the deities!

Though pagan gods were cooler. Gods of dirt and gods of sex and stuff. IT made more sense, this monogenistic ONE God tripe. Pff how fascist.

Jesus wasn't born on Christmas day for real though. They celebrate it in the winter since it is so close to the shortest day of the year the Winter solstice is day of the year (near December 22) when the Sun is farthest south. (more info http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/astronomy/WinterSolstice.html). Christmas is celebrated then for back then they did not have any electric heaters, t.v's or imagine NO COMPUTERS OMG!!!. So they had to survive somehow, they decided why not make a holiday that brings hope and joy in people. So Christmas along with many other holidays that occur around this time (ever wonder why chanukka is usually same time?) most of these religions are vanished.

So if you celebrate this holiday do it as it was meant to, turn off all your electronic devices go hunt out for a furry animal wear its skin eat turkey and burn trees.

I will meanwhile heat my hands on my 8 candles.

Ok, so uhm... on Friday I am officially on my Mithras Holiday?

Basically all Indo-European descendants (Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc.) celebrate some form of holiday at the same time, December. There was probably one major religious event in that time that was for the most part the same for all Indo-Europeans, then as they split off and developed on their own the same events were simply transformed into something else that suited their evolving religions better.

Thats probably why all of these events are very similar in time and nature. That Roman event you describe is new to me however, its certainly very interesting and I will definitaly be looking into it further. Thanks for letting me know about it. :)

EDIT: After a quick google search I came accross these interesting definitions for "Mithras"

1. A Persian god worshipped throughout the Roman world

2. Roman god. Mithraism was an Iranian religion practised by the Romans, made an imperial cult under Commodus (180-192).

3. A young Persian god, born from a rock on December 25, who slew the bull of heaven and introduced a salvation cult that swept through the Roman Empire. A serious rival to early Christianity, Mithraism was limited by its acceptance of only male worshipers.

4. ancient Persian god of light and truth; sun god

This is definitaly interesting stuff if you are into history like this.

Wow, this is like when they didn't know the Cheat's real birthday, so they celebrated it on the date of birth on his fake ID.

heh, this makes me wonder if "Mithras" is where J.R.R. Tolkien got the name "Mithrandir" for Gandalf (Mithrandir is Gandalfs true name).

lol

I know that most mediteranean religions believe in some kind of world wide flood
