Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater

Graphics are mediocre, story is amazing but complicated (I would like to see someone sum up all the MGS's and MG in 2 sentences) and the psycho mantis battle isn't memorable at all, plugging your controller into port two, wooooo. I do applaud Hideo for making the player think outside the game, but just because you use a diff slot doesn't in my eyes make it memorable.

Exactly how long did it take you to figure out that you had to do that? It's creative ideas like that which made MGS such a great game. Many people i've talked to remember that battle more so than any others from the series. The Graphics in MGS3 are not mediocre... The facial animations alone outdo those in many recent games. You also have to realize that the game was made for PS2, and the graphics are very impressive for the ageing system. I agree that it really isn't fair to compare the two games because they are very different, but i'm just defending one of my favorite series.

Ok non-MGS fans might want to sit out on this one...

Anyways, for the rest of you, I'm thinking Raidens presence in the trailer was merely a joke (as the crotch grabbing took place in MGS2), because I simply dont see how Raiden could look that way in 1964. Assuming the main character is in fact Big Boss, which we still havent seen solid confirmation on, that means that Snake and Liquid probably were not created yet. Big Boss appears to be around the same age as Snake in the first two games, and obviously theres no possible way that Snake could be OLDER than Big Boss (although, since a time of the cloning was never given, it can be a possibility that they were created at the same time).

And we know from the second game that Raiden was just a rookie while Snake was a vet, so there really is no way for Raiden to be that age in 1964. Unless I'm missing something...

I loved MGS...I still play that game; it's a true classic in every sense of the word. Psycho Mantis was the best character I've ever seen in any game bar none. The script was excellent- a perfect blend of reality and fantasy. The entire game was packed with a level of style and finesse I have yet to see rivaled. The musical score was soooo perfect, and the voice actors, damn did they nail their parts! There was not one single moment in that game I did not intensely enjoy.

MGS2 on the other hand, that was a horrible mess in my book. The tanker sequence was utterly fantastic; I loved every second of it. However, the switch from the dark and moody atmosphere aboard the tanker, to the stark orange daytime environment of the Big Shell, having to play as Raiden for just about the entire game, the terrible new characters with their equally terrible voice actors (Vamps was just horrible ), the musical score which sounded like something ripped straight out of some Jerry Bruckheimer movie, and the dreadfully befuddled storyline, which stopped making any sense when Raiden lost his clothes, ruined it for me. Fat Man also wins the “Worst Villain Ever Conceived by Mankind” award for his laughable name, and terribly flawed design.

Yeah, Raiden was a joke, a good one at that too. Anyways, because of the cloning here is how the age process goes for the brothers (im not gonna bother with a spoiler tag, just stop reading if you don't want MGS1 and 2 ruined)

Ok, Liquid ages the slowest, so he looks to be the youngest of the 3 brothers, Snake ages normally and Solidus ages quick, Solidus was the president in MGS1 and was forced to that position by The Patriots, he was not the required age of 35 but nothing a little document changing couldn't fix. Raiden however was a rebel and fought in Africa or some war with Solidus as the leader of his movement. Then Raiden's mind was douched and he was thrown into VR training and did his first mission on MGS2 which was called S3 or Solid Snake Simulation a hoax terrorist situation that would train a rookie to be as good if not better than the real Snake.

**phew**

Snake was never supposed to show up which changed how things happened. After Emma programed the virus into the AI or into GW the fake Rose and Colonel that it had made, went haywire which explains the wierd messages you get from the codec in the end.

Ok, now for some Metal Gear spoilers and Metal Gear Solid 3 guesses

Ok, now back to the 3 twins and Big Boss. My guess would be that in MGS3 he is turned over to the evil side (ala MG2 where you kill him) and we learn how Zanzibar Island aka Outer Haven formed. Now to the cloning. Raiden was a normal child, born, Snake, Solidus and Liquid were produced from BB's DnA and are 3 clones of 8 originally (5 were killed to strengthen the genes of the 3 remaining) and as I said above the age of all 3 are the same, but they show it differently. Na na na NOW! Here is how in some way Raiden could be in MGS3. As I stated above he fought as a Rebel in a war at a VERY young age, I would not be suprised if he made a cameo ALONG with Johnny Sakasi(spelling?) who if you know, is a long running MGS character that gets colds alot. Now Snake, Liquid and Solidus were created after MGS3 (because he switched to evil, they needed some new recruits)

Now, I really don't know what the hell this has to do with the conversation at hand, but before you ask a question, read this so atleast there was a reason for me to type all that :D

That doesn't make sense. MGS3 is based in the 1960s, while Raiden fought as a child in the 1980s. How can he make a cameo if he doesn't exist yet? :| Maybe if it's his father or something, fair enough, but Raiden simply cannot be in MGS3. Besides, Hideo Kojima already confirmed Raiden isn't going to be in this one anyway, so debating it is pointless.

Eh? They were cloned because the government was trying to isolate the perfect soldier gene, not because Big Boss turned evil and needed new recruits. :|

Imagine if we had to play as someone elce in Half life 2.. we play gorden for like an hour then its all this other guy LOL that would suck

Ah yes, Hordon returns after the first 25 mins of playing as Gordon. :naughty:

I hope they don't bring back the dog tags, I REALLY hated collecting them for secrets, I pefer the old MGS1 rewards way much better, beat it once like this, once like that, you win! I musta played Plant for over a month to get all the Raiden special items.

God, I know.. Getting every freaking dog tag wasn't all that fun, considering you spent most of the time on the big shell... actually, now I can't wait to see what kind of reward system this game has!

Prolly something worse, like FIND AND TAG EACH F***ING ANIMAL OR BE KILLED!

I think they should hide the secret items in a certain area in MGS3, like in a hard to get jungle clearing, BUT say that it doesn't work right now (Waterlogged, etc), but when you start a new game (after finishing the fist one), they get fixed or something ......

One of the reasons I love the MGS series is because of how wierd it is, it resembles bizzare anime plots that dont make sense, it actually immerses me further.

I couldnt get by the awful dialogue from the trailers I've seen ... why dont they hire an english speaking screenwriter for the english version? I may rent it when it comes out and decide if it's worth buying ...one thing that turns me off is hokey dialogue ..and japanese games/movies/anime are especially bad. It's too bad becuase the graphics and gameplay look extraordinary ...too bad they didnt devote as much time to the dramatic scenes ...nothing spoils a good scene more than extremely bad acting/dialogue

That's the thing, with each japanese trailer for an MGS game, the dialogue sounds crap. But then you end up hearing it in english with slight changes, and suddenly it all sounds a helluva lot better. :) The MGS series has a very large reputation for having exceptionally good voice talent and scripting.

Metal Gear Solid owns Splinter Cell in all ways, thats what i think. Splinter Cell is just a copy of MGS. Snake Eater looks great!

Splinter Cell takes a very different tack than MGS. MGS is about action and plot, whereas Splinter Cell is about strategy and stealth.

I liked gettign all the dog tags for awhile, I liked sneaking up behind then sticking them up and if they are like "ARE YOU GOING TO SHOOT ME?!" just give him a shot in the leg or arm that will shut him up! =D but it got boring after while... :borg:

You obviously haven't seen all the Splinter Cell 3 media, slitting throats and stabbing people in the back and watching their corpse go down a flight of stairs sounds alot cooler than shooting RPG's at a helicopter and trying to follow a crazy storyline.

We've already got a game like that on playstation, its called Tenchu.

Even the first time i ever saw splinter cell, i was like , hah , copying mgs. Only a little bit more sneakier.

That's like saying System Shock 2 just copied Quake, but it was just a little slower. Same genre, some similarities, but they feel completely different when you play them. Splinter Cell is a lot more tactical, and firmly grounded in reality, while MGS acts more as an arcade puzzle game (albeit one with a very detailed storyline). Saying Splinter Cell was just copying MGS is ignorant.
