Metal Songs that make you go crazy

I think almost any genre is as diverse as Metal. For example, I bet only a few people on this forum know the awesome rap sub-genre of "trip-hop". There's some ****ing ace trip-hop artists out there.

I am intrigued. Tell me more.

Oh, indeed, I just wish people would look behind the curtain a little more into music instead of taking it at face value. These days I find it difficult to say I dislike a genre because I know from experience that there is somebody out there doing very unique things with that common sound.

Usually anyway.

My own point was that there is almost no 'common sound' within different branches of metal. Musically, Sabbath has about as much in common with Nile as Fiddy Cent has with Aphex Twin. Saying 'metal is x' or 'metal isn't y', is about as meaningful as saying 'guitar music is x' or 'music played above a certain volume is x'.

People who comment on the musical merit of 'metal' are usually being too non-specific for their assertion to mean anything at all. Sometimes they are making a valid point about a certain type of metal, and they're simply applying their opinions to too broad a spectrum of music by failing to specify what type of metal they're referring to. Other times, I suspect people hope that their lack of specifics will cover up the ignorance of their statements.

By common, I mean the general overall stereotype of what people perceive metal to sound like by-the-by. I don't know if this is just from the people I know, or the forums I've read or wherever, but these folk would be quick to dismiss metal as a genre because of the popular names they have heard in passing by a radio or a TV channel. I know I'm not alone when I say my taste in music came under scutiny through school by 90% of the people there because they had heard what Slipknot sounded like, and If I liked certain types of metal then it must all sound like that one band they may of heard through the mainstream.

Fair enough, I'm really only talking about the redundancy of certain commonly used genre classifications.

Awe, Avenged Sevenfold you say? From them, Almost Easy and Beast and the Harlot does the trick for me.
