Old album, oft berated as a sellout, start of the slide etc etc. been listening to it.

I really like this album. It's got a really different sound to Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, which I suppose is more comercial, but I feel its just more rock than metal, which I've always prefered.

So what do people think? Is this just sell out trash that's deafend my taste in music or is it a good album that's just 'different' from the previous offerings?

My fav tracks are Untill it sleeps, Bleeding me, and Wasting my hate.

If you want an album that's really divisive try The Black Album. Some think it's Metallica's best album, for others it's the point at which they finally sold out. Unsurprisingly Load is a lot more popular with people who liked The Black Album. So it obviously depends on the type of music you like.

Two perfect examples of why Load was a great album:
The Outlaw Torn
Bleeding Me

\m/

It is a great album really

Metallica's best CD has been, and will always be, S&M.

Don't argue with me.

Nah, the orchestra works great in Puppets. Songs like Bell Tolls, Where I May Roam, Sad But True and Sandman suck with it

Outlaw Torn
-Human
Bleeding Me
No Leaf Clover
Ktulu

Those best on S&M

Load was good for what its meant to be (More of a bluesy rock) but its got nothing on older Metallica.

I agree with Kouler over here. I've always been a bit more into hard rock and metal, but Load was pretty good considering the lighter style it came in as compared to some of the band's earlier works. I really think Master of Puppets was their all-time best album, although as mentioned by some of the other members, it had a few moments where the orchestra was used incorrectly. My favorite song would have to be "For Whom The Bell Tolls".

Not a bad album by any means, but like others have said metallica were becoming a shadow of their former selves, outlaw torn is awesome though. But their work in the 80's was them in their prime

So what do people think of Reload then?

I own Master of Puppets (fav I think, Battery, The thing that should not be), Ride the lightning, And Justice for all..., Black album, Load, S&M, so I guess I'm old school metallica fan, tbh I don't think I've ever heard Reload.

Reload has some great songs

Fuel
Memory Remains
Devils Dance
Unforgiven II
Fixxxer

Not quite as good as Load though

2 things:

First, I'm pretty surprised nobody has mentioned King Nothing yet. It's a sick song, has both the sound and the lyrics. In my opinion the best song from Load. It talks about greed and avarice.

Also, I have this feeling that alot of the Black Album opposition like to be different and not mainstream for the sake of being different and not mainstream. There's really no other reason. The songs sound faithful to the older Metallica songs, especially Master of Puppets, with a slight touch of new styles that IMHO don't harm them at all. The lyrics are as great as ever. Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Through The Never, The God That Failed, in my opinion qualify to be recognized as great poetry had they not been Metallica's own songs. And don't even get me started on my favorite song of all time: I have lyrics of The Unforgiven in my AIM profile. Describes society so well.

My 2 cents.

I think we can all agree St. Anger sucks. ;)

/currently listening to Devil's Dance

I've only recently been introduced to Metallica...never been a metal listener 'til recently. Load and Reload are quite enjoyable, but Master of Puppets has to be my favorite album.

There was no orchestra on master of puppets...the orchestra was on S&M...
o.0

Anyway.

He meant the song Master of Puppets

Once they cut their hair and pierced their nipples and started making videos that looked like REM, I knew it was long past time to go....
