Miami Vice Reviews

Iv heard otherwise from everyone else.

i've heard nothing but good things - dark and gritty movie

From many people I've heard the story/plot, characters, acting and basically everythin sucked, except for the action, which was pretty good.

I've seen the trailer heaps of times and some of the shots looked like it was done with a home video camera. :/

Saw it yesterday; it is crap.
Mann's camera shots are often classy and the few action scenes are made really intense.
But the characters and script is just boring, and the 'partnership' between Foxx and Farrell is non existent.
Collateral is WAY better.
Heat is also better.

i still have faith in michael mann. i cannot turn my back on the same man who made heat, collateral, and the insider. ill give miami vice a shot. i was not alive when the series was in its hayday so i have nothing to compare it to.

It was so dry, no comedy (you gotta laugh a little in every movie), the Dialogue was TERRIBLE, so many scenes that just bored the hell outta yah. It's like they were trying too hard to act cool.

Ahahaha, and pay attention to an end part where Colin Farrel is walking away from the Camera towards a hospital. He walks so damn funneh

It was a bit of a disappointment. I'm not gonna say it was a bad movie, it wasn't. But it was definitely a step below Mann's other action movies such as Heat and Collateral.

The main problem was that I really didn't get into the movie at all until the last 20 minutes or so, and that's just not good enough. The acting, story, action, and dialogue were fine ... the movie just didn't come together as well as his others though. The character development was non-existant and I really didn't care one way or the other about their plight, a stark contrast to Mann's other films. I realize that he was going for a "fly on the wall" feel where he just throws the audience into the middle of a vice squad mission ... I just don't think it worked very well.

On another note the music was awful. Terrible covers of Phil Collins and Pink Floyd songs intermixed with shitty Linkin Park and Jay Z music. The Audioslave songs that played every five minutes were ok on their own but didn't fit in that well with the movie in my opinion.

Hahaha! This one is definitely best avoided. The lack of creativity in Hollywood right now is sickening and when they churn out re-hashed crap like this that doesn't even feel like the subject matter upon which it is supposed to be based, the sh1tter begins to runneth over....

Perhaps you don't realize this WAS the original idea and the show was a bastardized version made to please the network

I personally loved this movie. It throws you into the thick of it and expects you to catch up and hold on. I don't mind the lack of comedy at all and find it fairly refreshing compared to most big studio movies. I've seen it twice already and I'm working on seeing it again. Definitely my favorite non-independent movie this summer.

Which means pretty much nothing to people familiar with and expecting the "bastardized" network vision.

I saw it against my better judgment. As much as I like Farrell and Foxx, they didn't seem right for their parts. The soundtrack was abysmal. The action scenes were entertaining, but I hadn't felt invested enough in the whole affair to care. It's a shame, since Mann is capable of films much better than this mound of hollow trash. The reviews are deservedly mixed.

Oh, Christ. Why God... why?

It was the Linkin Park / Jay Z remix thingy that you hear at clubs and the radio sometimes. It was used in a club scene.

I thought it was pretty good. Nothing spectacular. They don't spell out the plot in an obvious fashion so if you miss part of a conversation or a couple lines you could be a little confused as to what exactly is going on (other than the obvious - catch the bad guys part).

I thought it was ok. Fun and entertaining, but the plot really isn't presented well and could have been handled so much better.

Anyone notice the way Colin Farrel walks when he's walking towards the hospital?

Any soundtrack with 2 Audioslave songs is not abysmal, you loose... :p

I think the film is a so so summer movie, nothing to chew over, very little in the way of plot twists, doesn't pretend to be big or smart. Semi realistic in show of blood.

Nothing special, but way better than Pirates 2
