I am currently experiencing problems getting my microphone to work in and program i have run from the steam launcher.

I have a sound blaster live audigy 2 zs with the live drive and a decent mic that works with other programs, but every time i load up counter strike or halflife it changes the input of my mic in my control panel to the wave input, so when i press my button to talk all people get is a distorted sound of my audio playing.

I have read that alot of other people are having this problem with other sound cards also. My mic is plugged into the front of my live drive as the back of my soundcard does not have a mic input plug. I use programs like team speak and it works fine but if i have used steam at all i have to change the input on my soundcard back to my line in 1 /mic plug to work again .

Does anyone know of a fix to this problem at all please ??

I have the same problem, only in half-life or half-life 2 based games..
It's really, really annoying, anyone know how to fix it?

yeah i have this same problem with my audigy 2 zs. every time there is a map change in cs the the input changes from line in 1/mic to wave and when it is put to wave i get bad echos in my team speak. its getting a pain in the ass haveing to come out of the game to change it back to line in 1/mic every map change.

anybody know why css would change the input to wave or how to stop it?

ok i have found a way of stoping the input change after counterstrike map changes. if you go into your config.cfg file and look for voice_enable and sv_voiceenable mine were both set to "1" so i just put them both to "0" and it dosent change the input any more. i dont know what else this disables in cs (maybe the in game voice) but it dont matter to me cos i use a seperate team speak program.

I have similar probs. I have intergrated AC97 PCI 3D sound. I used to be able to talk whilst playing in 1.6 and before. now since installing HL2 / Source I can't be heard. The Mic/voice icon doesn't even come up on screen during gameplay. Voice tweak says it can't find mic volume and going into my control panel sound and doing tests says it's working fine and I can hear it working. But in source it no longer exists. WTF is going on! All I want to do is speak to team mates ffs :)

I'm having the same problem. Everything was working fine until I started CS:S and now my mic is dead to software (it works as I can hear myself). I'll try to the config.cfg suggestion above and see what happens later.

On a similar note, my mic records fine in soundrec, but the hl2 compression makes it sound, well, blurry. I've heard other people's voices and a few of them are great, plus I have a decent mic. How can I get my voice to come across more clearly?

The solution to your mic problems

With an Audgity Z2, it changes the channel from Mic/Line1 to Wave, to stop this open the config file for CS:S and disable the "ForceMicRecord" option. This i will stop it form forceing it to wave input
