Microsoft Flight Sim X beta soon

I wonder how detailed the satelite textures will be, and if they will add building information.
 
There really needs to be some more Airplane war games.

The mod Military Forces for Quake 3 pulled it off beautifull. Flying the plane was very easy. There were a ton of planes each with several missile loudouts. You could fire bullets like normal and missiles. There were many types of missiles. Some could heatseak onto other planes and the planes could try to out-meanuver them or drop flares(?). Some couldn't heat-seak however you had a much greater supply of those that couldn't. There were some ment for bombing below you(there were tanks and objectives were planned).

The game was really fun. However I had a 56k and couldn't play online to well. Me and my bro lanned it often however. There were some maze maps where half the battle was trying not to crash... Those were damn fun. The last that I heard they were doing was porting it over to the Q3 Source Code.

There should be more games like the one I talked about above. I would kill for a sweet flying game.
 
If anyone has a spare FilePlanet account, or would rather lend me it just for this beta (I have a Saitek X45 that is itching to get used besides by our mod), I would be eternally grateful.

Oh and btw, one of the Microsoft guys said that as far as he knows, this is the full game and will be approximately 12 GB!!! 56kers need not apply for this beta.

I'm sure it depends on how early you registered and if you give your system specs, it depends on those (they don't want all high-end but rather a good mix to make sure it runs on a wide-variety of hardware)

You mean you want more arcade flight sims? That's easy, go buy a PS2, there's the Ace Combat games there, and if YOU managed to get the patience to learn a real combat flight sim, then there's a TON of good combat flight sims on the computer.:)

I'd sign up if I had the space xD I'm a big flight sim fan so I'd love to try this.. It's good that I'm getting a new comp with a new 320 GB HD soon enough.. I really need it what with all the upcoming games :(
 
I wonder what the hardware requirements will be like... FS9 runs terribly on my computer already :D

What in the world?? 12 GB!?! Man, that's way too much space on my drive. Sorry guys, until I replace my current PC with a multi-core scorcher, I can wait for a nice looking flight sim.

Personal tastes I guess - I dislike WW2 games as a rule tbh
There is no cooler rush than piloting an F15 in Lomac 30 feet above the ground at mach 1
 
LOMAC doesn't have a dynamic campaign ship with it htough, does it? That's a major turnoff for me, I dislike WW2 games a bit too I admit, jet is deff. a preference, my fav flight sim is an old classic, MiG Alley, covering the Korean war, dynamic campaign etc.. Also, when it comes to modern jets etc, I think Falcon 4.0 Allied Force is far superior to LOMAC.:)
 
no it doesn't - just individual missions which is a shame
it's a shame that Falcon 4.0 is so old, it's the best modern jet sim by far but it looks like cack now :(
 
Yup, it would be lovely to see a Falcon 5.0 ;)
But this thread is about FS-X, and it is not a combat flight simulator, it's a completely different game with airplanes ;)
 
I checked fileplanet and still no update on status of the beta release. It still just says a few days (since friday)
 
wasnt this supposed to be a dx10 game?

i guess it runs on dx9 as well, or i was mistaken.

No it is not.

The demo that will be released I believe is limited on where you can go (like they say, it only includes certain areas)

The beta on Fileplanet is the whole damn thing (all 12GB of it!)

No way to get it without a membership? :(

Is there any other way to get it or do I just have to wait?
 
Still gotta get this one. I had enough trouble getting the Dark Messiah demo. Will probably have to wait for this weekend...:(
 
Tried it, pretty damn good. Framerate problems though.

Mostly it's around 15 or worse, but it occasionally jumps up and down so it's hard to tell. At best it's probably 25-30 but that's rare.
