You know how perception is just electrical signals in your brain that are sent by your nerves and stuff (/Matrix).

Well, wouldn't that be awesome if you could conciously alter those brainwaves, and thusly conciously alter your reality, WITHOUT being a mental basketcase?

Like, what if you could look at a spoon, and think to yourself, conciously, "There is a spoon, but what I see of the spoon is only what my brain is telling me is there", and thusly manually override your brainwaves and shit, and then make it appear, to yourself, as if the spoon is bending (/Matrix).

Or maybe you see a fat ugly chick, and can think to yourself, conciously, "I know that this chick is fat and ugly and has let herself go, but I realize that what I see of her is only what my brain is telling me is ther", and then manually override your brainwaves and shit to make it look like, to yourself, that girl is actually intensely beautiful?

MIND BENDING AND SHIT YO!

There is a true reality, even if ours are subjective. Just because one perceives the world differently does not mean the world is actually changing.

Odd, I was just thinking today it would be cool if you could have full control over thoughts, so you could decide to like / dislike stuff.

You can. You are responsible for your perception. live in your own reality.

Well, of course you'd be the only one that could see your changes, as they'd reside only in your mind.

"I guess reality is what you make of it" - Bender, while mind bending and shit yo.

Amazingly, as your brain is electrical signals, you can do weird things using big magnets:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_helmet

I had instructions on how to build something similar, once. You'd put certain patterns through the electromagnets using a serial port from your computer, and you could do things like make yourself feel out of body, or pass out, or other horrible things. Never had the balls to build it though.

Yup some day people could choose to live in a tube for the rest of their lives and live in their own computer-aided dream-like reality.

Sure, but the hard part is truely convincing yourself to believe it.
I'm actually very very good at stuff like that. Theres been countless times where I've thought, "I'm don't have my homework... i'll just skip next period and go into the sick room". 5 minutes later, guess what? My stomach does actually hurt.

I also do the same thing to force myself to do things I don't wanna do.

i believe it's possible, i think perception IS reality. i'm into a community discussing this stuff, the main concept is that it's a matter of noticing your beliefs about reality. have had some pretty cool experiences.

perception is reality but i am afraid we are still bound to reality's rules

What if the colors we see are completely different to other people. Like whats red to me is another persons green. It's just crazy.

Except in cases where people are color blind, partially color blind, this is simply not the case.

:-P

He makes an interesting point though.

Weren't dogs and cats colorblind or something?

Different species percieve reality differently, but while there are differences there is a more universal reality no-one escapes.

That is so third grade out of the box thinking.

Apparently, the human brain is capable of some crazy shit, even in the real world. We can possibly use telepathy to read minds, communicate, etc. We can possibly use our brain waves to make things move, disappear, etc. Except no-one's really found out how.

There was some research done into it by a guy called Wilhelm Reich. He invented the cloud buster - a device that accumulates what he called Orgone energy (which is found in people) and bombards clouds with them making the clouds disappear. Apparently, you can do it yourself. You just concentrate on a lone cloud for a few minutes and you'll bombard it with energy, eventually making it disappear.

If I see even one person going outside to stare at clouds...

Cats are not colorblind. Dogs are not colorblind. Both are dichromats which means they see the world exactly as we do, except that they are red/green colorblind.

Most mammals are like this, with the exception of humans and other apes like humans, which are trichromats, and sea mammals which are something else... monochromats?

I call BS, If i remember correctly our brain waves only go outside the brain by like an inch.

Hrm, I'm going to try to zap a cloud, but not before changing it's color first...

Doesn't alcohol make you do that? :p

Alcohol just makes the act less atrocious- doesn't do shit about the woman :p

Hey guys, what's going on in this thread?

Dr. Mindbender of Cobra, just so I don't have to come back and explain it

This thread had potential for a decent intelligent discussion. But it appears I'm far too late.

I don't think that you can change your perception too much. There is an objective reality, but we view it in slighlt different perspectives. But that doesn't mean we can "control" everything we see, hear etc.

Tis a shame...

Will be awesome when we've evolved to be able to consciously alter the electrical pulses in our brains.

MIND BENDING AND SHIT YO!

Would be so much cooler if you could do it to other people.

Once, when my brainwaves were "altered", I willed the lines where the walls and ceiling met to disappear, it gave the room a spherical look...
