Are you doing anything to celebrate? I think I might start playing again!

I signed up for the dwarf fortress single player, not the contrived RPG elements.

What sort of "RPG Elements" were implemented?

I believe they're adding "experience orbs", levelling up and enchanting weapons. There's also a new realm (like the Nether) called the End.

So thats it? theres no more .9.8.6 or whatever versions coming out? bummer

Well tomorrow they're releasing version 1 but they'll still be adding to it over time.

Will updates be more sparse or will the game continue to receive the same amount of attention?

I think he said they'd be focusing on bigger, more stable updates with lots of content rather than adding random things. Ie, no more adding villages without NPCs or experience points without levels to invest them in and items that do nothing (yet). I haven't been following all the Minecraft sites and news, just Notch's blog.

Uh, they'll still update it after it's out, it's just gonna have a 1 at the front of the version number now.

Edit: Christ did I really open this thread that long ago.

Just in time for me to finish exams. Guess I know what I'm doing this summer, or for the first 3 hours of it.

I might check it out. I haven't played since an update came out a few months ago, that caused the game to run out of memory after a few minutes of horrible performance. I hope they fixed that.

Whoop, whoop!

Minecraft to be released during Notch's keynote at Minecon. Watch the IGN stream here. It's supposed to go up around 1:00pm Pacific.

In celebration, I pulled an old alpha map I started over a year ago from my old laptop. I'm gonna convert it then build right from where I left off. Those are my plans today (-thanks to the Chicago Public School Track-E calender schedule for not requiring me to come into work today!!).

Ye-yeah, you're going to want to generate a new one (and use a map editor to paste in your stuffz). The generation algorithm has changed a handful of times since alpha.

Yeah I think he means convert it from the old map format to the new one, so that what's already generated will stay but any new generated land will use the new algorithms.

So anyone who bought the beta, not the alpha will have to buy the game again for 20€/30$ in order to get any updates after release. I'm extremely disappointed although they announced this a long time ago. I assumed to get the full game when I bought the beta a few months ago. : /

I'm confused as to how people drew this conclusion. What I thought they meant was their lawyers realised that the contract for buying the alpha said that you will get all future Minecraft updates and content free forever and they realised this could be applied to expansion packs too and paid-for expansion packs were not something they wanted to rule out, so they changed the wording with beta so that everyone will continue to get updates as they improve the game and if they release any expansions alpha users will get them for free but everyone else must pay.

Interesting, I hope it indeed is that way.

I bought it in alpha, but that's still a bitch move, especially considering that's just plain saying 'yeah we're going to jew you more out of your wallet later, thanks for giving us money'.

Anybody else enjoying the Notch v. Yogscast Minecon debacle?

Well, just go to the r/Minecraft subreddit. I'm subscribed, so this kind of stuff (below) has shown up on my frontpage all day.

Enjoying is not the right word to use. But, I'm eager to see what the Yogscast respond with.

Thanks. I've read up on it in the mean time. Some how I have a hard time believing Simon and Lewis would do stuff like that. I don't really see them as divas.

Anybody else having SMP issues interacting with blocks in the immediate chunk of spawn? It's my friend's vanilla server where I edited the map to paste in our old stuff. Doors won't work right, chests won't open, and blocks can't be edited. Anybody deal with anything like this before?

If you don't give me shit tons of free content indefinitely you are obviously an asshole and anyone who puts up with it is sucking your dick.

Yea, seems like just a bunch of fanboys raging on each side. Typical internet flame-war ensues. Sort of sad to see the community split like this.

Anyway, how long has this been a bug?

That's normal, it's spawn protection so people can't mess with the area where people spawn when they join the server, for obvious reasons. You probably need to be admin to change it.
